Number of scenes optimization

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hello everybody, I develop mobile games, and as you may know, there often are a lot of levels in these.

Here is my question, if I have 100 levels, should I make 100 scenes (one for each level) or is there an other way to proceed ?

  • Ok, perfect, someone told me the same in the Discord.

Using Global events to code and 1 lvl for each just in order to position elements in the right place.

And what if I have 500 lvls ? Still the same ?

How does the addition of a scene/frame make the application slower ?

  • More scenes usually means a larger file-size.

I like to make a level editor for myself that saves the levels as external files(that you can later include in your binary). This way you only need 1 scene that loads your levels.

  • I definitely need to know more about it. I often have heard about binary but I don't exactly know what it is. Plus, how is it possible to create such external files ?

Do you have any tutorial ? Examples ? Or any other feedback in order to teach me ?

  • Here's an example by Konidias: Please login to see this link.

It shows how to save and load your levels as ini files. This particular example requires the Window Control, File and INI++ objects which you can grab for free in the Extension Manager.

You can add external files as Binary Data from the Data Elements window. To open it go to View > Data Elements and pick the Binary Data Tab to start adding files. This means your application will store the files inside of itself.
