Installing TGF2 on an old laptop

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

    I'm thinking about purchasing The Games Factory 2, so I can install it on a retro game dev laptop that I'm almost done with. I just wanna to know a few things:

    • What are the commerical limitations of TGF2, and
    • Are the specs of my laptop (see below) sufficient for developing with TGF2?


    Here are the specs of the laptop (it's a Panasonic Toughbook CF-27, Mk. 4):

    • Pentium III M, 500Mhz
    • 320MB RAM
    • 80GB 7200 RPM HDD
    • 4MB graphics memory (not dedicated)
    • 800x600 display
    • Windows 2000, SP4

    Please login to see this link. states "Minimum System Requirements: Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000 or 98 operating system, 200 Mhz Pentium processor or higher, 32 Mb RAM (256 Mb for XP, Vista and 7). An internet connection is required for installation, updates and to download the software." - can't remember what resolution it needs to work smoothly.

    See Please login to see this link. for comparison with MMF2 (e.g. TGF2 has no support for third-party extensions). In terms of license the main requirement is to have a splash screen crediting Clickteam/TGF2.

    For a retro low-resolution low-spec system you could also look into getting a copy of the original Games Factory. It is not available from the Clickteam store, though.

    Thanks again, Joshtek! Just purchased TGF2 yesterday and installed it on the laptop. It's running pretty good on it, so I'm happy. I'd also like to find a copy of the first TGF - I checked out eBay and Amazon, but all I found were boxed copies of TGF2 and Italian versions of TGF bundled with magazines.

    I'll post screenshots of the machine shortly; I'd love to hear your guys' opinions! :D

    Click & Create (later re-branded Multimedia Fusion Express) is the sister product to The Games Factory. Click & Create had a few more multimedia-orientated features but was generally the same. I can't recall whether C&C lacked some of the original graphics libraries and examples or if it was simply superior to TGF.

    Edit: Just researched the laptop model a little more - it can indeed take PC-100 RAM. The 256MB PC-100 stick I put in likely is just faulty. BTW, I'll post screens in just a bit.

    It's running quite nicely, but now I have to deal with the laptop's memory issues. It doesn't like the 256MB stick of PC-100 RAM I put in it, and it only wants PC-66 RAM. It works just fine with a 128MB PC-100 stick though, so that's kinda weird (maybe the 256 one is just faulty). I have to find a PC-66 256MB module now. XD

    Just checked out the links. The Amazon one seems reasonable, but I'll have to see if they ship overseas, and how much they charge for shipping. The Click & Create one's price however seems quite prohibitive to me, unfortunately.

    If I find a more affordable copy of Click & Create later on, I'll definitely consider purchasing it.
