mode 7 mario kart characters direction face

  • Does anyone know what the thought process is behind which way cpu characters face in mario kart for the snes and super circuit using a mode 7 style?

    I built a mario kart engine a while ago and never got this working. wondering if anyone knows how to get the cpu characters to face the correct direction< not so much in programming but just the thought process>

  • it's the angle between the CPU character world X,Y coordinates and the "eye/camera" world X,Y coordinates
    plus the CPU character own orientation (yaw) angle

    then you can divide this resulting angle by 11.25 to get the Fusion animation direction
