Beat Em Up Engine 2018 - ClickStore

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hello everyone.
I just wanted to post as I'm the creator of the Beat Em Up Engine featured on the ClickStore & February's "Reactor". Please login to see this link.

I'm currently getting a lot of messages from people on social media, YouTube, Pm's on this forum, e-mails to current and old e-mail account as well as steam messages (the list goes on) by people struggling to find me.
So, I've made this post to say, thanks for the kind words, the purchases and downloads, the bug reports and questions and I'm sorry for all the late replies and for not being easier to contact for support.
If you have any questions or need some troubleshooting/bug squashing advice then please post on this thread and I will hopefully be able to reply much quicker and save you guys the trouble of hunting me down.

    Cheers guys.

    - Jason

  • That engine looks really good, how many events does it have and is the code commented? Btw, I really think we need an extra forum category for Clickstore creators. More and more great content is being made, but as you said communication is scattered and overall difficult. The open topic community forum cannot be accessed by guests, so that probably won’t solve your problem. Maybe add a feature request for a proper Clickstore forum to the bug tracker?

  • Thanks and those are great ideas.
It currently has 357 events, all which are in groups, so for example, you didn't want the player grabbing enemies, you could simply disable it in a couple of clicks.
    It's all commented/documented too.

  • Just tested, here is the breakdown.

    Android works.
iOS requires 2 lines to be deleted, just ones that use keyboard commands.
    HTML5 works.

All would require ibar.mfx to be replaced. This is the extension I used for the health bars. It wouldn't take much to replace, just a standard health bar would do the trick.
They can all be exported with ibar.mfx, it just makes the health bar not appear, but it doesn't break the game in any way.

  • Cool stuff jasonorme,
    Questions:
Does it support 2 player co-op?
Can the players jump up onto the barrels and boxes and stand on them?

If the answer to both of those is or becomes "yes" then you'll have an instant customer.

  • Thank you.
You can't jump on barrels or boxes, I wanted to keep it as close to standard late 80's, early 90's beat em ups as possible.
2 player co-op is not a built-in feature of the engine. It was actually cut due to time constraints. Due to this the engine has been coded from the very start in a co-op friendly way that would make it far easier to implement it.

  • Just a quick update.
It's 4 am and my 2-year-old daughter is going to be awake in 2 hours, ready to trash the living room and throw toast at me. But I have been working on the engine for over a week and just wanted to share this screenshot with you.

I would like to get the update rolled out before March, but I keep finding little things to add.
Of course, anyone who already owns the engine will get the update for free when it's released.

  • The current version is 640x480.

The upcoming version is 480x270 and can be scaled up (scaling down is currently untested).

I made the change as there was an excessive amount of background in the original, and it made sense to shrink it down to its minimal size for easy export to mobile platforms.

Here is a comparison of the old vs new.

  • thanks for answering about the android/iOS /html5 question. The fact you added two players makes it even more interesting, if i wanted to add up to 4 players would that be compatible with the engine? How are bosses handled here? do they have the same AI like the regular enemies?

  • Adding 4 player would certainly be doable, and the upcoming version makes it easier to do.
A boss would most likely use the basic enemy AI (the same way most enemies would), it's just a matter of giving them new attacks, decreasing their time between attacks, more HP etc.

  • Thanks for the purchase.
Yep, the update will be free for anyone who already owns the engine.

Co-Op is the main feature and I would say apart from a few minor bugs to iron out, it's 100% complete.
It's had a bit of a facelift, so it looks nicer.
A lot of events have been simplified/removed and various bug fixes have been made.
I am now just seeing how much more I can cram in before I have to move on to other work.
