Great to hear. I think I'll wait for the coop before I use it in a project.

Beat Em Up Engine 2018 - ClickStore
Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.
A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.
Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

I can't seem to find how you do "Z" ordering. I have an issue when the player walks through the object and the object is floating in front of the player instead being behind it. How do you adjust that? Thanks
-
Hey,
Thanks for purchasing.
Z order is done with both the layer object and the active objects hotpot. -
Hey,
Thanks for purchasing.
Z order is done with both the layer object and the active objects hotpot. That's what I was missing, my hot spots where not at the same level between the Player and Object. Preferably the hot spot would be on the bottom of the sprite, so the line up would be straight forward.
Thanks for making the Beat'em Up Engine, I was looking for something like that for many years.

Hi!
Just bought this.I got this error message when I try to open a Beat Em Up -file with ClickTeam Fusion 2.5. Standard:
"The following effect file is missing:
PixelOutline.fx
Install this effect file and click Retry"
-
Found it from the second folder.
-
This is great! We really appreciate all the hard work you put into this
Helps some of us know what it was kind of like to make Streets of Rage 1-3, Final Fight series, Double Dragon series, Battletoads, Golden Axe series, etc. (Streets of Rage 1 & 2 Sega 3d Classics versions of these on Nintendo 3DS are AMAZING, btw).
-
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback and thanks for purchasing.

Hi jasonorme,
First I congratulate you for your engine, looks wonderful, I will buy now and I wanted to see something, I am now dedicated in Colombia to create advergames for brands for a super low price for customers. I have a page in Itchio where we will promote the service. Would you mind if I put the Youtube video on my page as a sample of the genre Beat EM Up?
-
Hi Koji, thanks of the kind words.
Sure, feel free to use the YouTube video. -
Thank you my friend!
-
Thank you so much for this engine Jason.
Unfortunately, with game dev being something I can only do in my spare time I know it's long overdue, but my game is coming along nicely now with one complete level and a boss battle at the end. This wouldn't have been possible without your hard work and making the engine available to all of us. With any luck, I might even have this game out by next year.
Here's a quick work in progress video of my game using this engine.

Thank you.
The game looks awesome, loving the style with the pre-rendered graphics.
Thanks for sharing.

I have been getting lots of e-mails and private messages recently asking if I plan on adding more features and free updates to the engine.
I'd certainly like to and I'm trying to figure out the best way to finance it.Just out of interest, what sort of features would people like adding?.
-
I'd like:
-Air juggles (and continue to hit them while they are falling)
-Bounce enemy off wall to continue juggle
-Hit them while they are down
-Grapple them while they are down
-Grab them while both of you are in the air
-Being able to parry their attack if you hit forward or back at the exact moment
-Running and running attack (forward, forward really fast)
-Dash up and down (Down, down, really fast etc)
-Two types of jumps (short fast jump when button is pressed fast, higher jump when button is pressed longer)
-Delayed combos (pressing attack then wait 1/3 a second then press attack again for a different combo than pressing rapidly)
-Easily scalable for multiple resolutionsI'll post if I think of more!
-
Great list.
Many of these things I had hoped to add.
As for scalable resolutions, this is something I'm hoping to address in a new or updated version. I knocked up a small test engine with big hand drawn sprites and backgrounds (like Streets Of Rage 4) and loved how it looked a felt as opposed to working with tiny pixel sprites.
So that's something I'd like to work on which would be both an engine that doubles up as a fully playable game, but I'm currently looking for viable methods of funding.
Shame Clickteam aren't looking for or funding devs to make demos/games to showcase Fusion 3 off. -
Glad you like the list! Also wanted to add mid-air recovery, and just hit ground recovery. How much would you need to raise to make an update worthwhile?
-
Unsure what funds I would need, idealy a steady stream to keep things moving which is why I looked into Patreon.
I did a poll recently and it turned out that 70% preferred pixel art for their beat em ups, so I scrapped the idea of a large 1080p size playfield with massive HD sprites (probably for the best time and cost wise).
After deciding to stick with pixel art I looked into scalability options and could get it to look nice and sharp at full screen.
I then looked into the most user friendly way you could import larger sprites and simply edit their properties like walk speed, run speed, jump height etc. There are so many ways I can make the engine more efficient so users can spend less time in the events editor, but it would mean a fresh version.
And while I would love to update the 2018 engine with this all new version for free, it's not financially viable, so Im unsure how to approach it without people feeling upset that they now have to purchase a new 2021 version (even if it was vastly superior and more feature-complete).
Patreon looks like the only way forward at the minute unless something else comes along. -
