[Request] - the Flash Player's future?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hello,

[NOTE: I don't know if someone did talk about this topic anywhere, I didn't found anything yet]

I know that it may be cocky to get this kind of request but please hear me out. (This message is really not aimed to alarmed anybody from Clickteam).

As you may or may not know, Adobe Flash Player will be killed in december 2020. Here are some sources:

Let be straight to the request. actually, the Adobe Flash Player exporter is priced at 77,60$ CDN and I think it's a bit pricy considering that it will be killed in about 16-17 month from now. Yes, I know that some people will create a third party player for flash games maybe sometime after or before the shutdown. The thing is, the price of the exporter right now is more than a brand new AAA game and I think it's way too much since we will not really be able to create some real stuff to share with it. I've been working with Clickteam Fusion for the past 10 years (I know it doesn't really show on the forum because I had another name at the time I was not that greatly into content creation). I learn many stuff these past years to know that flash is sadly on the death bed right now. This amazing piece of software that made the biggest foundation about the indie development community. That said, I know that the Fusion Team worked hard on this exporter past in the days. But I was only curious of what's gonna happen with it or if even it will be less pricy or even free (yeah that's harch), but it would be grateful to all the smaller indie developers out there that want to show their creation on Newgrounds or other platforms in the last year of his survival. Who knows? There is maybe someone out there that will show the next "Five Night at Freddy's" or something!

Briefly, I know that cocky for me to show up like that and talk about this sad "Old News" but I was scrolling around Clickteam latest information and DLC and I saw this exporter. I thought... that is sad for 77.60$ CDN considering the circumstances. I hope that my thoughts will be spoiling over the Clickteam team because the exporter is kinda already "Dead". Maybe some of the Clickteam team were considering it already but I don't know that. I just wanna share this critical information. Like I said this message is not armful in any case. Just a quick thought I needed to share!

  • Flash has so few people to focus on now that it's almost quitting. It feels like no one has bought the official Flash DLC now. They are all going to HTML-5. I hope the official can do a kind of price reduction and promotion. I should buy it.

  • There are some efforts to get the Flash videos and games running in Mobile.

  • Yeah, I know that there is some movement to get the flash games working.

The thing is that it's kinda sad that the actual Clickteam exporter is the same price as the actual WebGL exporter. I work with WebGL and I don't complain I just think that is weird that this exporter is pricy till it will maybe die or be irrelevant. As Muyinz said, the WebGL DLC is way more convenient now but for people who are just starting with Clickteam Fusion 2.5+ (that I think is such a powerful application for starters), they can maybe create some stuff with the exporter in the next year and post some of their work to see if they like to do more game development in the future. I say that for the game developer community and the future of it. I think everyone should have a quick and easy way to learn. I mean, the basic version of Clickteam fusion 2.5 could come with the flash extension build in from now on or with a huge discount to help the newest developer to show their love to any community.

I'm all good with the WebGL and I think I've learned enough to just don't use the Clickteam engine but I'm still coming back on it when I want to do conceptual stuff because it's quick and easy enough to use and get something great out of it! It won't be my own choice to make it less pricy or even better free with the bought of the base engine but I think that's maybe a lost opportunity for Clickteam. I do game development as a hobby because I have a job in the IT department and in this department we need to share a comforting thought about any optimization or current issues that we have.

I'm sure that flash won't die because of the community, but the price of the Clickteam exporter is weird considering the WebGL exporter. really don't wanna sound greedy... I won't really use the flash but if they do something out of it I will sure be encouraging it! If it's only a 5$ permanent discount I don't think it will work out well tho.

That's my mind about this stuff I'm sure that you guys understand a bit of it. Maybe you won't be on my side and that's ok. but well, if they are really working for the newcomer in the indie game making developpement they should at least try something out for the next year. The clock is ticking, Decembre 2020. (or it will be saved by the community as Xhadoe said).

Alright! Have a good one y'all!
