Any news about firefly's future?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I know I posted a while ago but that thread was locked. Have you found anyone to pick up the work on Firefly? It wasn't the cheapest thing to buy and it could sure use a few updates here and there. I was exited when I got it but i just gave up on it after a while and haven't touched it since and that's a shame because i really want to do something in 3D but not in its current state. It has great potential and it would be sad to see it fade away. I really hope you will find someone dedicated to be in charge of Firefly :)

  • Well first of all, my fbx model player character is completely broken when shadows is turned on. I must have them turned off in order for the character to look allright. But then all shadows are off (I was asking Triadian
if it would be possible to have a shadow on/off option for each object. I can live with no shadows for characters but for the other stuff it would be nice to have) Cloning models is a real chore. String object only displays one line at the time. This is what I remember for now from when I used it last

  • I think occlusion culling would be a nice feature as well (If that's what I mean hehe) rendering tree leaves looks quite crappy in firefly. Backface culling removes a lot and frontface makes it just look weird. That and the memory leak needs to be fixed IMO. Firefly wasn't the cheapest thing to buy in the first place so you can't help to feel a little ripped off now when there's zero support for it. I really hope you can find someone to work on this

  • we have about 30 working world editors and you can use normal movements in firefly already

  • onPlease login to see this link.it lists all the formats firefly uses

if we choose a few and google them we get no end of world editors

even if we do just 1

  • I've personally tried the Irrlicht Scene format and it does not work. So I'm suspicious of this list.

Many of these are model formats, not world formats. From experience again, Firefly only partially supports them: just as once example, it only loads the first object found in a FBX or X file (can't remember which), not the entire object tree, so that format was useless for worlds.

It does seem to import many FBX character models just fine, in the Animated Mesh object.

Quake level editors are also basically a non-starter because of their intensely game-specific configuration. This is another format I've also personally tried to get working and been unable to.

The bottom line is that Firefly has no actually fully supported world editor with a complete tutorial. If there is a format it happens to fully support, it's hard to find. So this is still a problem in my opinion.

It's a shame Firefly is dead. Even a editor like Sketchup would be far superior than any Quake 3 editor (well, in level designing at least).

I've only tried importing models before, was hoping to wait for updates before actually creating a game in it, but seems it's just dead now. A shame since Firefly could've been a cool way to create Dungeon crawlers and more, nothing fancy (unless you baked in high quality textures with amazing lighting for visuals).

This is no longer supported and has bugs. In order to get the final version you have to go to the devs patreon.

  • It's a shame, you pay something 1 years later dead, and then new dlc out you pay it boom dead and again... XD

    Yup.

Oh well, what I'm working on is 2D atm, 3D is something I'm doing in Unreal but 3D in Firefly had its charm (Ogre engine?) so that's why bought the DLC.

Don't really care much for third party (PAID) editors. Firefly needs a better editor from Clickteam, else it's dead (which it is).
