Use PMO and go from there? Or create your own?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

  • Hi, I've just been starting for a few weeks now using CTF 2.5,

    I was just wondering how the Platform Movement Object was intended. With the parameters that are given in its settings I can't seem to create certain kinds of jumping. I had for example the trouble creating a the tiny and huge jump functionality in a good way (like for example Mario has in Super Mario Bros) that changes depending on how long you're holding the jump button.

    So I was wondering, was PMO meant for just a starting point, that just needs to be expanded upon where ever the need is? Or would that be asking for trouble in the end because of the extra processes that'll be required on top of it?

    Or would it in this case actually be worth the effort to create your own 'PMO'-like mechanics to get the specific desired control and performance here?

    I'll try to stick with PMO for now, looking for ways to change the jumping behaviour outside of it without getting my character stuck in the ceiling. A hint is very much appreciated.

  • The platform movement object can easily handle that style of jumping. I've been able to get some pretty solid results out of it, and it has been used in a lot of projects. Personally, I do everything I can myself, as it gives me a better understanding of what can change and how to change it. Since you just started with Fusion, I'd recommend using the PMO as you learn the rest of the systems and get more familiar, and if you can't achieve what you want after playing with all of the PMO properties (double click it to change those settings), then look into fastloop platform movement for fusion 2.5 to get started on your own custom built movement systems.

    Also, the PMO has a help file attached that can get you started with how to handle some of the most common systems.

  • Yes thanks, I realise now that I was missing something. I didn't know I could work with the PMO variables, thought it was just setting it once and that was it. This makes all the difference : )

    I followed a tutorial to create my own PMO as well. it's indeed nice to be able to see how this works, but to refine it takes some extra work I guess. And there is still lot's of other stuff to learn as well so I think I'll indeed better stick with PMO for now.

    I'm learning from the tutorials I can find which I think goes quite well. The PMO help file I still can't seem to find on my Mac though (for some reason the help button in the PMO 'properties>about' tab does not seem to work).
