Videos don't work when uploaded to a 2nd computer

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

Clickteam.
  • Hey guys, I have had to build a game for school and I chose Clickteam because I happen to have the paid version from a sale a while back. My game is basically done, but I have hit a roadblock. I have 2 videos in the game right now, and when I build it and play it, they work fine, but if I upload a zip file of the game and all its assets to my laptop, the videos no longer work. Everything else works fine, pictures, characters, everything. Just not videos.

The videos are in Active Direct Show containers and they are .wmv. The videos are in the same folder as the game. I am new to Clickteam and have been teaching myself as I go. If I could just get this fixed though, I will be good to go, thanks.

  • Are the videos in the folder of your MFA file too?

Otherwise the best way to load external files is with the Apppath$ expression. In the Load action of the Active Direct Show object use Apppath$ + "yourvideo.wmv" as expression.

  • Also, are you sure your laptop has the needed codecs installed to play .wmv? They should come with Windows by default, but in case you’ve some custom installation they might be missing.

  • Not using AppPath, just right-clicking on the object, clicking edit, and selecting the video that is in the same file as the game itself

Without knowing what file paths you're using on all machines or an uploaded example, it's tough to guess what the fix would be. Try this code since the video is in the same folder as the game and see if it works. As long as you have the video and game in the same folder together, it should work because the WMV wrapper is native on all modern Windows machines.

I tried that, now the video won't even play on the computer I am on. The project is due late tonight, I think I may just have to find an alternative. Thanks for your help though
