Fusion 2.5 Dev + is running in Pop!OS but can't run a frame

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi all, I'm attempting to migrate away from Windows as a whole and have Fusion running well now via Proton 6.3-5 on Pop!OS.

However I get an error when I attempt to run a frame or a program that says, "This application has been built with an incompatible version of Clickteam Fusion."

I'm guessing it compiles ok but it isn't responding well to running the temporary executable.

If I could get past this point, I could likely ditch Windows once and for all. Does anyone have any experience with this or ideas on a workaround?

    Thanks kindly for your time.

  • Sorry I've no idea about why this message is displayed in your case... I think it's usually displayed when the EXE of the runtime doesn't correspond to the version of the editor, but I don't see why it would do it in your case.

  • Its because you are running it through wine/proton - the playtesting feature used to work, but seems like after the 2.5+ dlc it broke. This is a problem for steam users running it through proton on linux. Shame since the steam deck coming out soon with steamos based on arch linux will have a crippled fusion 2.5+

  • The solution to this on the steam forum is to "please run Update from inside Fusion to get the latest update."

Problem is that the update command is disabled in the steam version. Is it updated to the latest release on steam?
    Yves?

  • It is indeed because the version on steam is from last year!

and the check for update command does not work

Yves why is this not being updated on steam?

  • After testing this with the installers from my passport page -I can confirm that this problem is only present on the steam version. If you manually install it, then install the update patch and finally the plus patch - playtesting works on linux.

If you however do it though steam - playtesting does not work and you get that error message

  • It's not "officially" supported, getting it to run is pure luck.
It doesn't use anything too fancy tho, except DX11 on 2.5+ DLC.

It may be possible that the Steam version doesn't work properly on Linux because of the piracy protection, although I think the whole software wouldn't work, not only the runtime.
So it's most likely that it's just because a software is launching another and this causes some conflicts, it may be corrupting the app exe on run, who knows ...

  • I use crossover to run fusion on mac book pro when im away from my win10 desktop. Codeweavers also make a linux version. I imagine it will work just as well on linux. Both the Standalone and the Steam versions work for me. I normally run standalone though because steam is meh. I have run steam inside crossover and Fusion inside steam with DLC included. I don't like having to mess with things like wine. so let codeweavers do the heavy lifting for me on the setup and update side. It is a paid solution but worth it imoho. I have never seen Fusion load so fast on windows as it does on mac crossover too its mad. WiNdOwS BaD lol

They have a free demo. Paid comes with updates for a year then you just keep the version your last on until you subscribe again. Heres a link Please login to see this link.

  • I was aware of Codeweavers for linux and Wine for linux. But I understand perhaps running MMf2.5 native on linux was going to be possible. Oh well I'm sure whatever Clickteam updates are coming will be great. They always are.

  • I tried with the beta code on steam too - same result. Starts ok, editor works, playtesting fails with this error

  • So thanks to some folks on the Steam forums, I have a new solution with Proton.

If you set Proton to version 5.13-6, it will allow the application to compile. However, you have to go into the Application Properties and change the renderer from Direct3D 11 to Direct3D 8 or to Default for the Frame window to display any content.
I'll be working from there, but thought it worthwhile to share the update.
    Merry Christmas!
