[Suggestion] Ability to change and load pictures in a quick backdrop

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Adding the ability to change the images and size in the quick backdrop would be very useful in various scenarios:cf25+:
At the moment I don't see how it would be possible to make an infinitely scrolling background that would follow the screen

    Example:
I want to make an infinite scrolling down background consisting of squares, but to make this background not stand still and have a scrolling coefficent of 0.5, the only option is a quick backdrop, but if I want to do another variation I would have to create a separate layer with a separate quick backdrop, and this is not the best solution.

I hope you understand me ;)

  • Just use an active object instead of a quick backdrop. Then you can can switch between frames, directions and/or animations inside the active object as needed.

But it's impossible to make infinite scrolling texture without using shaders
And if u wan't to do big scrolling texture using actives and shaders you will encounter memory leak

  • I think he wants to use the built-in Wrap for backdrops that can be found on layer properties...
Fortunately, I know a dirty trick that allows for changing backdrops texture in real time e_e
I'll talk to you on ClickConverse, this is a highly experimental thing but it works.

  • You could use the regular active object as previously suggested, draw your squared texture in MS Paint or Whatever (when drawing, make the texture extend in size by 1 extra tile/square in the direction you wish to scroll from), use load frame to load it into the active, then scroll in X pixel incremets untill you have scrolled 1 tile width/height then reset the actives position to what it was & rinse repeat.
I very much doubt that would cause a memory leak or eat up a lot of runtime, if anything it's likely the most performant way to do this using active objects.

  • Im using such a big background because I'm making level editor and I wanna to make levels of any size

Ok I see. You can still have your level editor any size you want, the Active object square grid method only requires the active to be 1 tilespace larger than the viewable window in all 4 directions, and then uncheck "follow the frame" in the object properties. No shades or extra layers required. The frame itself can still be any size.
