Clickteam Community Game Idea

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

Clickteam.
  • I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making Examples together?

Basically a community examples demo, that everyone works together on, adding their own touches too.
I think it would be a cool example of what Fusion can do, with everyone chipping in something towards the game.

Obviously, the finished product would be Free and be available to anyone with Fusion 2.5.
Maybe we can port it out to other consoles as well with credits towards everyone whom helps make it and to CLICKTEAM for making fusion.

If anyone is interested, please comment below and bookmark this Post as it will be the Development center of the Demo.

I may add more when I have some time too. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps you start off a new project with ease.

Feel Free to add your examples to it and share with everyone here!

  • Could be a fun side-project for me, but I don't have much time to put into such a thing as most of my time goes towards my own project.

I take it the main .mfa would be available for everyone interested in contributing and that you would be putting stuff together since not everyone can work in the same file at the same time like it's some Google Docs document?
Also, one worry is that it could become a huge mess with lots of people coding completely differently and potentially adding major bugs. I mean, it's hard enough to make my own engine work mostly bug free, I can only fathom how hard it must be if there's more than one coder adding stuff into the file.

  • I've had my own idea that I was eventually gonna try and attempt that may work for something like this.

    I'll try to explain it.

I was gonna make a game (not sure what yet) whereas I would build the core engine in a way that would allow me to build "add ons" that I could just drop into the game and they would just automatically work with the core engine.

This would of course be in the form of objects behaviors, I know alot of people don't like using behaviors in this manner but I have found them very useful and if done right very beneficial. Also much easier to do this now in 2.5+

This of course would be very tricky and would take a great deal of planning but I think it could be done.

I started a very basic mockup of doing this for a match 3 game awhile ago but I'm sure it could be done for other games.

    Anyways just my two cents.

Yeah, I get that for sure as Fusion has some odd hidden bugs you only find when you project goes crazy for no reason.
What I was thinking is everyone would make their own level, with their own style.
I would swap things around as needed.

I.E. If you made level 10 and from an old Main available .MFA but now the latest .MFA is at level 20. I would swap your level to Level 21. ETC...

I just think this would be a cool way for new users to start off strong with Fusion.
They could download the .mfa and see numerous ways of doing things by various users.

Obviously, I would hope everyone whom participates puts a Text line on their LEVEL stating who they are and any info they wish to share with the new user.
Such as willing to help with a project or not.

  • Definitely not a bad idea. However, I feel for New Users to Fusion. It might be too complex.
    Maybe not though?

  • This seems like a very cool thing for new Users to Fusion to have.
Basically an all in one Example from anyone in the forum willing to help.

So, at this point. I was thinking to have anyone Interested in Helping create one level with their strongest point in it.
I.E. You created a level where the entire level rotates while playing.
You created an amazing Water effect that does not lag down the FPS
    ETC...

Also, Please make sure to Credit yourself in the Example level!

Still trying to think of a cool storyline that would allow for many choices of level design.
    I.E. Mario style Platform / RPG / Race car / Mod 7 / ETC...

    LEVEL 01 = Platform
    LEVEL 02 = RPG
    LEVEL 03 = MARIO KART
    LEVEL 04 = MARIOD KART ( FAKE ) 3D
    LEVEL 05 = ETC

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Side note* Obviously we can leave out the PINBALL movement as no matter how many .MFAs I have tried or Made myself. That movement is just buggy and not even worth addressing. X)
I.E. Ball getting stuck in a corner for no reason
Ball choosing and odd angle to bounce
Gravity working 75% of the time
Odd Forces being applied for no reason
    ETC...

  • I took part in a similar type of project many years ago, where various members of a forum all contributed to a communal project. Going by that experience, I'm fairly confident in making two predictions: (a) this game will take 100 years to make, and (b) it will be a Frankenstein's monster of clashing styles and incompatible ideas. Here's hoping you fare better than we did, but I have my doubts you will X)

Well, if we all lived life by what didn't work once. We'd never succeed at anything.
God knows there has been a ton of times I tried to make something in Fusion, only to have it fail.
Although, after trying numerous times. Walla! It works!

Don't get me wrong. I am sure there will be issues and hopefully we can all come to a solution.

I just wish this was a thing already as I know having an .MFA like that when I first started using Fusion would have been amazing.
You'd know who did what and could come to this forum to see the work of said user.
You could copy frames and change it to your liking. ( kind of like that Fake lighting Example I shared and you used in your game ).
    ETC...

Community makes life easier if everyone works together. ;)

  • Sure, and I wish you all the best. But it's an almost impossibly difficult task you've chosen. You know how hard it is to see projects to completion. You know how many bugs and unforeseen complications always arise. You know how hard it is to maintain motivation in a single project over the long term. And you know how hard it is to keep a large project well organised and easy to understand. For this project, you can just about multiply all of that by ten.

Also, I think that the sort of short and sweet examples that you produce are super helpful to beginners (as well as to experienced users like me, of course). People can dip their toe into the ones they feel are relevant to them at that time. But I think that a gargantuan mega project with 10 different coding styles and inconsistent commenting is probably just going to seem intimidating to many beginners.

exactly - this has been tried before a few times.
it doesnt work out well and nothing has ever come of any attempts before.
    best of luck though.

Yeah, I can see it being a pain with the wrong people. However, I complete roughly 90% of my projects.
Typically the only thing that causes me to drop a project is Google's Size Limitation or Windows .exe not being a valid extension for Windows anymore. Even though, you can make exceptions, many users just see the Virus thing and freak.

Anyway, I guess the people that decide to participate will need to be committed to start. Honestly, making one level is not hard at all and could be made in under an hour.

It is what it is. Maybe I will just work alone on this and post the progress. If someone wants to join in later. So be it. If not, No biggie. It will be done! ;)

  • I think it's a good idea and could help cement the community. If I can help in any way I'd be happy to do so

    Awesome, someone with some drive.
What kind of games do you like to make?
What is your strong points in Fusion?

You don't have to be an expert, just someone willing to make a level Demonstrating your style of code for your style of gameplay.

Personally, I have been thinking to go after an RPG style Level as there is a ton of controlling where a Building is in relation to the player.

I.E. Player is in Front of building, building moves to back. Player is behind building, building moves to front.
I have seen a ton of RPG examples on this forum but many take the cheap way out and just make Square buildings that the player collides with and don't actually have a place the player can hide behind.

  • Awesome, someone with some drive.

Lol. I've been exclusively working on a single project since 2014, building it up to a high, professional standard. By last count, I've poured roughly 30,000 hours of work into it. You don't get to a place like that without drive. Don't confuse realism with a lack of drive.

order objects by Y coord and use extra collider or make the map grid based then look-up the map array

I have seen your work. Very Beautiful games in my opinion! Not at all Confused though.

What I am saying is there always seems to be someone saying," This won't work" or " has already been tried " etc...
    Thing is, I never listen.

I was told years ago that Android apps made with Fusion can't display the Video in the app, because of Camera Driver compatibility.
However, funny thing is. I made it work with the WEBVIEW 2 Object and an Online Webpage I made. Just to exploit Android's Camera.
Not only did it work. It worked amazingly well.

Of course, now Google has sealed that little loophole up. Plus side is, GIGATRON started working on an excellent way to open the Camera in fusion.
Point of all this is, Been told it wouldn't work. Has already been tried! Impossible! ETC...

I get it though. It is a huge undertaking.

  • order objects by Y coord and use extra collider or make the map grid based then look-up the map array

Yes! Yet there is even easier ways, but again. The examples I have tried out back when I was new to Fusion, where.... ...well... ...examples of something.
However, trying out as many as I could find. I found many different ways to make whatever I was trying to create.

The point of this post is to have one example of what we have had to teach or learn ourselves in one MFA.
Granted, it will not be everything there is in one MFA. That would be impossible as even to this day.
We still have excellent coders like Gigatron creating some cool extensions.

I just think it would be a big help for NEW Users to have this .MFA as a Starting point.

I already started working on it and I included some cool links for new Users.
One of which is the Amazing Royalty Free Music of Darren Curtis.
Which by the way, does work on the side for paying customers.
He actually made me an Amazing Soundtrack for VBE for only $100.00.

  • so far this thread is proceeding almost identically in every way to all the other ones :) back then there were like 50-100 x times more active users on CT... its like a ghost town nowdays seeing the same people say the same stuff from years back.

True. With the Unreal Engine out, Fusion is truly only useful for Simple 2d games.
However, I have a few members in my group that are just starting out in Fusion.
So regardless if anyone wants to help with this project for all new users or not.
    It will be made! ;)
