Using Dual Monitors for the event and frame editor

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hello all. Apologies if this has been asked before, i haven't seen it mentioned here. Does anyone know if its possible to have the event editor on 1 monitor and the frame editor on another?

You can stretch the Fusion window across the two monitors then split (make sure to use, checked in preferences because they are better experience than windows in terms of splitting)

After enabled you can Shift + Click on an editor to open it in a new tab, if you right click on a tab, then you would be able to split...

  • This is how I've worked for years. The only issue is that it's pretty fiddly to setup each time, since Fusion will default to single screen when you open it. And newly opened editors will span both monitors, needing to be manually resized each time. It's especially fiddly if your monitors have different pixel heights (eg. because the side monitor is in portrait) because parts of the editors will be hidden out of bounds. It can become 30 seconds of annoying clicking and dragging at the start of each session.

So what I've done, which I recommend, is set up some hotkeys using Autohotkey and a little program called Sizer (You could achieve all of the below using just Autohotkey) . Using Sizer, I've set up a hotkey to stretch the main Fusion window across 2 monitors. Using Autohotkey, I've set up a hotkey to trigger the Sizer hotkey then, using a series of keypress and mouse simulations, open two frames from my MFA, position each perfectly on a separate monitor, and set one to event list editor and one to frame editor. It also positions all toolbars (workspace, layers, find, etc.) in the right spots, in case they've moved since last time. So I just load my MFA and press a hotkey and the macro does the rest.

I've also made two hotkeys for positioning editor Windows perfectly on one screen or the other. So when I double click a frame and Fusion opens its editor across both screens, I can easily pop it into my desired monitor with a keypress.

It's a bit more complicated, but you can make Autohotkey automate this process for certain cases. For instance, you can make any Fusion frame that you open and which is called "new" automatically resize to your main monitor in event editor mode, or any frame with "level editor" in the name open on your second monitor in Frame Editor mode.

Edit: some of the above probably only applies to Fusion's windowed mode (not tabbed mode). I use windowed mode because my side monitors are in portrait mode and thus have a different pixel height than my main monitor. This is an advantageous setup for various reasons, but more or less makes tabbed mode unusable.
