Mac testers wanted

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi everyone, Phi has ported SDL Object to Mac!

Super happy about this. For some odd reason though, I can't get controller input to pick up on my M1 Mac running macOS 14.
So far I've tried wireless Xbox One, PS4, controls and even a corded Logitech Dual Action control with no joy.

May I please request any Mac users to download this app and run it to see if it can pick up your controller inputs?

I'm trying to figure out what type of Macs and what version of macOS will pick up controller inputs and which ones won't

  • Combinations tested so far:

CPU | OS version | controls tested
Apple M1 | macOS 14.1.2 [Not working] Xbox One, PS4, Logitech Dual Action
Apple M1 | macOS 12.6.9 [Working] Switch, Xbox One, PS4
    Apple M2 | macOS 14.1.2 [Not working] PS4
Intel | macOS 11.7.10 [Not working] Xbox One

  • So i'm getting really weird behavior..

Like it works, bluetooth and wired, but with or without the controller connected, the app keeps freezing for 3 to 5 seconds, then comming back again for 2 seconds max, then lagging yet another time, it keeps doing that forever..
Between each lag, I noticed it working, it detects the controller connected, joysticks, shoulderstriggers, buttons..etc but can't know for sure if it applies to everything as it was almost impossible to test with the weird lag happening

Edit: ok so this is really weird, as long as i'm holding LMB and moving the mouse pointer, the app doesn't freeze, but still, somewhat low fps, around 75

  • Hi Cobra, I've got a 2020 M1 Mac mini with Sonoma 14.4.1 and a 2014 Intel Mac mini with BigSur 11.7.10 and 2 Xbox One S Controllers. I connected the controllers, but they don't control the app properly, although the numbers on the app change after a very long lag.

The last screen shot is on macOS BigSur

  • Yes, the unresponsiveness is practically total on both systems. At first you don't get any readings for the different left/right controls etc while pressing all the buttons, triggers and moving the sticks around. Then after about 75 seconds various numbers appear, but these readings remain frozen until after another long period of time has elapsed, then a different set of static readings appear. It often takes a while for the app to even recognise the Xbox controller and the ID to appear even though you can see the controller is connected in Bluetooth settings. Basically the app doesn't work with the Xbox controller on both macOS 14.4 and 11.7.

Does it happen even when holding down a mouse button?

If that's the case, it sounds like the app isn't ticking SDL at all without an explicit user interaction like mouse click. If it's not, then it narrows it down.

I did fix a related issue in Mac during development of build 10, so unless it's somehow snuck back in, or using remote access was enough to cause SDL ticking.

  • Moving the mouse cursor around on Sonoma 14.4 does have this weird effect that Linky found where the readings move, but they just move for less than a second, then they freeze again even though I'm still moving the cursor around. It's very erratic and there's quite a long pause before the readings move again. Holding the left mouse button down while moving the cursor around and controlling the Xbox controller doesn't make any difference for me here. It seems that just moving the cursor around sets off the readings to change temporarily.

Moving the cursor around, or moving the cursor around while holding down the mouse button on BigSur 11.7 has no effect at all and the app stays frozen

  • Issue was SDL video being enabled - which is required on Windows or it doesn't get events properly - turns out, on Mac that causes it to fight with Fusion for drawing. It might have only affected large-resolution screens.

Once I've confirmed I do need video on specific platforms, I'll update SDL to fix for that and to the most recent DarkEdif SDK.
