Occasionally multiple objects disappear from the Frame Editor

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • After I work in the Frame Editor for a few hours, in my complex MFA with lots of objects, there will sometimes come a point where I try to do something to an object (eg. delete it, move it up/down in the stack order), and suddenly a quarter or so of the objects in the frame will just disappear. It's obviously some sort of program error, and I'm always too scared to save my file at that point in case it will save the corruption, so I just quit and reload the most recent save. It appears to be related to how hard I work the Frame Editor; merely having it open for several hours won't cause the problem, while doing lots of creating/rearranging of big objects for a long time is more likely to cause it.

It's not actually a major problem, because it only happens after several hours of working in the Frame Editor, and I can guard against it by saving frequently and/or periodically quitting and restarting Fusion.

I can't really provide an MFA for this problem, since I'd have to provide my entire game, and even then someone would have to work inside it for 3 hours for the problem to maybe or maybe not occur. But I'm posting in case anyone else has experienced this and/or can offer any insight in to it. Here are a few thoughts/questions I have about it:

    • I wonder if it's some sort of cache filling up in Fusion. And if so, is there some way to manually force Fusion to flush this cache (load a different frame...save mfa...)?
    • I wonder if it's a display issue only, and doesn't actually harm the save file (ie. Fusion stops being able to display all the objects, but saving and reloading would put everything back to normal)
    • I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I work with 2 frame editors open, and frequently drag objects from one to the other.

  • I've had (what I think is) the same problem in the past - the objects just seem to be deleted for some reason. I *think* it would happen after zooming in/out or scrolling. Saving and reloading didn't fix it, it just made the changes permanent.

This was prior to the 2.5+ release though, when I had everything inside of one big frame (and prior to tabbed editors I believe). Once I started seperating things out into other frames it *seemed* to stop happening, but I assume you're also already doing that

  • Thanks for the feedback. Good to have confirmation that saving/reloading isn't an option.

This usually happens on my level editor frames, which don't necessarily contain millions of types of objects (far fewer than my main engine frame, for example). But of course I do populate them with lots of platforms and level elements, many of which have fairly large dimensions (many around the 500x1000 mark, with a couple that are 2000x1000). Though it feels like it has more to do with how intensively I'm shuffling objects around than it does with how complicarted the levels are.

  • Would it be an option for you, if you - inside the crowded frame - scale the large objects down using the mouse, and then at runtime set the objects to the original width and heigth values ?
That way you would have a better view of your ( large ) objects on the frame editor, and perhaps solves the problem ?

You my try it first by duplicating your main frame, and perform these changes on that clone, to see if it helps.

Another thing that could help, is that when you copy an object from a frame and past in another one, is to see if the destination frame does not have an object with the same name. Perhaps this alone could mess up the frame.

By the way, in my workflow I tend to put big objects ouside from the visible frame, and set then the position of them at runtime. This way the visible part of the frame remains "free" from large objects during the editing, and this could also help - I guess.

Another thing, perhaps if you organize that big objects so that you put them in different layers, which could be hidden or shown at runtime, could help to make the current frame by editing more "stable".

    I hope it helps ;)

    Regards,
    Sergio

  • Not quite the same problem, but recently I've had Fusion just randomly crash after being open for several hours at a time. It's happened a couple of times & both times I haven't actually done anything to cause it. It's crashed literally from an idle state, I'm not pressing any keys, clicking on things, or even holding the mouse at all.
