Pixel Shaders Ideas/Requests - HWA

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I thought I would create a thread for sharing practical requests, concepts and cool ideas for new shader presets.

    It might spur the people who are writing them on to breaking through to new, amazing effects as I think we can see there is a lot of room now for innovation.

    One caveat: It is best that users who understand both what HWA is and can do and what pixelshaders are and have used them already to post here with creative ideas and new combos of what we already have.

    This should be exciting and create enthusiasm as we see new possibilities and potential amazement ensue.

    I am sure that the shader pros will be able to let us know what they feel is possible and even attempt to create what seems impossible enough to blow our minds and make MMF2 shine.

    Users could also contribute suggestions/ideas for current shader updates and improvements here, as well.

    Go! Oh, and enjoy!

  • My first suggestion for an improvement:

    I'd like to see a better edge detection that mimics Photoshop more, if possible. The current one from Complex-Softwares only creates white lines on black and it is not as fine as I would like.

    So, a reverse version (with some color capabilities in the edges) would be nice since you can overlay a copy of a picture using that and set the blending coefficient high and the edges have a nice effect on the background picture.

    A suggestion for new shaders:

    * Kaleidoscopic with various settings, (we already have mirror so that should be possible). Could be very cool when used dynamically.

    * Gradient Grayscale Mapping - converts current colors in a graphic to fit in a spread between two colors across a gradient.

    * Photo Filter - A set of tinting presets that correspond to common photographic lens filters, (warm, cool, etc.)

    * Solarize - Possible? Various color sets and degrees of inversion?

    * Melt - Dripping edges, melting wax, bloody mess?

    * Cycle - Something specifically designed to cycle through color ranges, (when used dynamically) for simulated flowing/moving effects, (like the good ol' Amiga days).

    * Motion Trail - smear edges in a direction with or without tapering, and maybe even curves?

    * Snow/Rain - For use as a frame effect?

    * Vignettes

    * Frames

    * Twirl

    * Glass

    * Ice - Icicles and frost effects.

    Are some painterly and sketch effects possible? There are so many possible kinds.

  • i actually threw together a solarize shader a few months ago, but about the only thing you could change was the "inversion" point (since all solarize does is invert colors that exceed a certain value, generally .5)

    a more useful version would let you invert R, G, and B individually

    Thanks, but I used this as reference: Please login to see this link. :)

    quite surprising those images even helped, because those are some of the worst-looking jpgs i've seen

    LOL sorry, wrong link. :D
    I meant this one: Please login to see this link.

    I used the other one for the shader descriptions. ;)

  • RobertRule: You should give more details about what you want because "swaying grass" don't tell anything about the effect you want, it depend on the camera point of view for example and also on the used sprites. A pixel-shader can't do the whole job for you, it's a combination between one or more sprites and pixelshaders. ;)

  • I would like a simple replicate/tiles shader. There is Zoom+Offset+Tiled but it does not work well for how i want it.

    Basically what i had in mind was -

    Copy Amount X
    Copy Amount Y
    Spacing Amount X
    Spacing Amount Y

    It would allow you to easily make custom tiles and grid effects if applied to the layer.

    I would try to make it myself but there is no dedicated sub forum yet -

    And i would rather not fill all of this forum topic with questions asking various things.

  • I'm not quite sure I understood your need Atom. :)
    Do you want a shader like Zoom+Offset+Tiled but just with tiled, the number of tiles to display and the spacing between each tile?

  • In the Shader Pack, (by Looki) under Morphing, there is a Perspective shader.

    If it is possible, it would be great to have an offset parameter for x and y. What I am shooting for is a pseudo-3D effect where you could use a seamless tile type of graphic and make it appear to be going into or out of the background.

    Is that possible?

    Whats not understandable?

    Basically it would be exactly the same thing as the right click clone object feature in MMFs frame editor but as a shader.
