Race Car Movement Substitution

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I am working on a little top down racing game but seems the default racecar movement is a bit goofed up. What movement, settings would be suggested to do a race car movement?

The car would be player controlled, and the design would be a cross country style track. Thanks!

  • Rather than be bothered to type it all out again, take a look at this: Please login to see this link.

That is how one would do a 360 degree shooting engine. For a racecar engine, it is largely the same. You would just need to replace the angle expression with some "Repeat while -> is pressed, set angle to angle+1" and so on with left. You can put those formulae into fastloops as well, so when you collide with a backdrop you can just set the velocity to velocity*-0.5, which will give a nice bouncing motion off of obstacles. Assuming you hit them straight on, that is. If you have actives you can hit, use the 180+the formula in the link I provided for angles and then set the velocity, so you'll bounce off. This can all be refined of course, and I'm willing to do a more in-depth explanation of each element if you need it.

    Hope this helps!

  • Bring this topic up again, the race car movement in MMF seems to not be working correctly. I looked up the reference on how to use it in Make Amazing Games in Minutes by Jason and when I try it the car will not move using the arrow keys. Is there additional settings I need to look at or adjust? Thanks!

  • Lets see here ok I made an active object, put the racecar movement on it. If you press the up arrow key it starts to move, if you press the down it comes to a stop (as its suppose to).

Turning does not seem to happen, it just goes in a little circle, but does not 'turn'. Do you need an object with animations to mimic the car turning?

  • Ah

    Thats how its always been.

If you only wanted it to turn when moving forward or back you could have a couple events.

If car is stopped -- Set rotating speed to 0

If car is not stopped -- Set rotating speed to (how ever fast you want it)

  • Well no luck, I tried the race car sample from Make Amazing Games in Minutes and that runs perfect. But if I take my own race car model in and set it up like the sample I get odd behavior.

I make sure to set the initial direction to -0 right, and when I load the model I set the movement to running in the frame/graphic editor.

Only other thing I can think of to do is zip up this sample and see if the program Im having can be pinpointed.
