Hi
the haunted house stages in Mario Bros often feature staircases which you can walk past while standing on the ground and also hop onto like a jump through platform, I was just wondering if anybody knows a good approach to replicating this kind of thing with the platform movement object?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.
A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.
Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

I would recommend looking into making a custom platform movement, where you'll have much more control over your movement engine. Otherwise, if you double click the platform movement object, I think that option is called "jump-through platforms" and try experimenting with it. I've never used it myself.

If you're using the built in platform movement, it's just a matter of creating a backdrop object and setting it's obstacle setting to 'platform'.
If you're using the Advanced Platform Movement Object, you need to use an active object instead of a backdrop object. Use a qualifier if you're going to have a lot of them. Then near to your 'test for obstacle overlap' event, create a 'test for jump-through platform overlap' event and use the active object/qualifier instead of a background obstacle. The character should then be able to jump through it from underneath.

I’m not quite sure you understand what I’m trying to achieve so here is my own progress so far it should provide a pretty good idea, my attempt almost works perfectly except that on occasion the player will just fall straight through the stairs & I haven’t figured out why exactly (although it’s probably embarrassingly obvious!)

I was going to try to debug it, but I couldn't make him fall through the stairs like you say.. worked perfectly for like 3 minutes?
-
Yeah seems to work for me as well.

okay so I had another look.. I did get it to mess up if I kept moving left and right near the top of the stairs, as far as I could tell it appears that sometimes the "PMO is falling event" was not registering 100% of the time, when the player would quickly switch between interacting with the actives/backdrop sometimes it would not change the solid state.. haha ermmm after playing around a bit I fixed it.. it's not the most elegant solution, you can probably tidy it up seeing you know what the problem was now. have a looksee!

Thanks a bunch!
Looks like your solution also fixes a few smaller issues I was worried about as well -
Seriously, just make a custom platform movement it really isn't that hard and the possibilities are limitless...
-
why? have you even looked at the PMO? it's not the default platform movement we're talking about..
