Okay I have noticed that the Alt key freezes the game, until I press it again. This seems to be related to the menu bar because it usually highlights it when I press it. However even when I totally get rid of the menu bar, the alt key still freezes the game. Is there any way to get rid of this?

alt key freezes/pauses game? disable this?

In the application properties you can edit the menu. Remove the pause and hide the menu.

thanks! I wasnt expecting that to work though, since pause was set to Ctrl + P and not alt... and since the alt key only froze it, I didnt get a window.
but it did work? Just curious, how is the alt key freezing connected to that?edit: Actually this is no good. Because my game also brings up the about window with P, and I accidentally disabled it just now but that brings the alt freezing back.
I want the about window with P. However I dont want the menu, or freezignw with alt. How do I achieve that?

Actually, I deleted every menu command with a shortcut key EXCEPT about and now the alt key doesnt seem to do anything.
Can someone please though still tell me what the purpose is of the alt key freezing things or the details of how its connected?edit: still not solved. It doesnt freeze at first but after I use about at least once, from then on alt freezes it.
Gonna try making it a global event to bring up about instead.
If that doesnt work, please help! -
Why do you want the about window?

Why do you want the about window?
because I want it, but I don't want alt key to freeze. does that answer my question at all?
-
The Alt key freezes it because Alt in Windows is set to activate the menu. In most cases it'll pause everything if you activate the menu, so... Solution is to get rid of the menu.

As I said, I already got rid of the menu being displayed. But if I use the key command to bring up the about screen, then it starts pausing again even though the menu still isn't displayed.

if it cant be solved without getting rid of the about screen then I will just deal with the freezing.
I love using the about screen to display a cute message -
How about a custom about window?

How about a custom about window?
If what I am asking for can't be achieved, please just say so, rather than recommending things I might not even want.
I want to be able to bring up the built in about window by pressing P, without alt being able to pause the game.
If that can't be done, I will keep the pausing, because it doesn't bother me enough. -
Hello Pookasnooks,
What you are asking for is simply not possible using the window that pops up from the menu bar.
Whether you call it by pressing P or any other method, the about window is part of a modal class of windows.
This means as long as the about window is displayed, the main window will be inactive and "frozen" until you close the about window. -

But my problem is that if I have called it at least once, from then on until I close the game, the alt key will be able to pause it too (WITHOUT creating the about window, it just freezes it until I press alt again)... and I don't want that.
It's still looking to me like it cant be solved without getting rid of all menu commands entirely though. -
Pookasnooks, we've already told you it is not possible. My sincere apologies for "recommending something you might not even want". How rude of me.
Good luck with your game.

No, you didn't. You only asked me why I wanted it, and if I wanted to use a custom one.
Nivram gave me a helpful idea, which I tried but it didn't work.
GoofyGamer apparently thought I wanted it to not freeze when the about window was actually up, and didn't realize it was about pressing the alt key.
EdSabbath's reply was the closest to telling me... but I was still confused whether he meant get rid of just the menu itself, or get rid of the commands too. so I kept asking. No one totally gave me a straight answer, I just used everyone's words to put the pieces together by myself.
Please don't leave sarcastic posts like that in the future, ChrisBurrows. Out of everyone the things you said were the least helpful.
I have no intention here of hurting anyone's feelings. Sorry if I came across that way. I know most of you WERE at least TRYING to help. -

It's still looking to me like it cant be solved without getting rid of all menu commands entirely though. The thing is once you call a menu command once (The about pop-up window), you have activated the menu bar even if it is hidden, deleted or not. Pressing alt would then highlight the the first menu option and pause/ freeze the application because menu options work the same way the about window does. Meaning they are modal and no actions can happen until the menu is clicked out of or in this case repressing alt.
If you like using the about screen to display a cute message I think you might be better off making a custom one. You can take a screenshot of the about screen and make that into an active object. Make it visible when paused and hide it when not paused.
No one needs to know its not a real about screen.

Thanks for the tip, I'll consider it
