iCade support WIP topic

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hey guys:

Please login to see this picture.

This is the iCade mobile I'm going to be using to build the iCade support extension/examples! Don't worry, it'll work on all forms of iCade, and the upcoming iMpulse controller.

Current progress is, I'm running an Xcode project which reads input into a view controller. Had to create it without an iCade until this morning when it arrived. Now I can test it and start working with the real thing.

I have to go for my first driving test (so bloody nervous!!!!) in about 5 minutes, but when I get back I'm going to get straight to work on it. I'll keep posting my progress in this topic. Bare in mind that while I've created full apps in Xcode I'm still a bit of a learner with Obj-C, so I might have a few fumbles. Shouldn't take particularly long though.

Wish me luck on my test anyway, lol!

  • Test didn't happen! After driving around for an hour we pulled up outside the test centre, instructor asked "you got all your papers?". I didn't.

So with iCade. The biggest difficulty here is going to be getting it into just two files - an MMF2 iOS extension can only be two files (one header, one implementation), according to the documentation, whilst iCade support is often done with several more than this.

I've got it sending the data to the phone and displaying it on screen, though not until after you've tapped the input box on the screen. So I need to work out a way of having it read text input to an invisible box, without displaying an on screen keyboard for those without iCade...

I'm wondering if I might be able to tether it to Clickteam's built in Joystick option. Obviously this would limit it to only four buttons to begin with but it'd be a start.

Back to the Obj-C books I think!

  • Thanks guys.

Since the iOS exporter for MMF2 came out, I haven't had much Xcode practice. Obj-C is such a damn convoluted language, I was really happy to just be working on my beloved MMF, so it's taking me a little while to get back into it again. As I said, at the weekend I'm likely to get my old iPhone development book out again and re-familiarise myself with it all to make this a possibility.

But it'll be worth it to get our games on the iCade compatibility list.

  • Oh hey Andy! Sorry I've barely had the time, and I've found the response (i.e. the number of people with iCade units) to be quite lacking really. It's just a matter of finding the time to do this project since I work for myself and it'll take a lot of time which I won't be paid for.
