Flash database objects?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi,

I have a social networking site that is driven by a database hosted in the USA. Are there any flash extensions that will allow a flash based application to retrieve information from or write information to my database?

What I want to do is to write a game (for my site) that access the database and finds out how many "credits" a user has. The user will then be able to spend credits in the game, and awards and stats can be updated back to the users account on the database.

Any help will be very much appreciated : )

    Nathan.

  • You would probably have to make your own extension, or hire an extension developer to do it for you, as there are currently no extensions that can do what you want to do.

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

  • It is impossible to directly talk to a database thru flash. But it is still possible to talk to websites :)

You would have to use the Get Object in combination with a php script (or what ever you use server-side).

To use the Get object in flash you need a file called crossdomain.xml in the root of your domain. ( See: Please login to see this link. )

  • Could I host the lacewing on the same server as my site? I have a dedicated server. I believe to make online multiplayer games i will need lacewing anyway? also (sorry) does using lacewing cause any lag?

Another alternative - does the java builder allow connection to an external database?

    Thanks for the help.
