InterGalaXia - Playtest

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Cole,

I have the revised playtest located on my own server here: Please login to see this link.

If you could download, deploy and let me know now if the controller works in-game? I could also do with you testing to make sure the right profile is loaded with the joypad, normally just going to 'Medals' from title screen should do it.

I owe you your very own barrel of beer if our paths ever cross @ ClickJam and/or CC13 :D

  • Hi Danny,

I got the chance to test again.

When I play the same with the second controller, it's asks to select a device to save (I have a memory unit plugged in so it will ask if I want to save on that or the hard drive). I'm playing with the second controller it's asking to select a storage device for the profile on the first controller. So it's saving to the profile on player 1 instead of player 2's.

The movement & shooting works for playing on a second controller now though :)

  • Cole - this is excellent (to a degree lol)

This is my code for 'Player 1 presses Start' which is supposed to Show Sign-In, set System Player to 1, etc. as you can see below. Can you see something wrong? Or should I be calling 'index 1, index 2, index 3, index 4' based on which joypad was pressed? Confused.com

  • Arg I've managed to confuse myself also! Maybe I was right the first time, player index = xbox lights. BUT there is another type of player value (essentially a 'mmf player value') where you want to assign the control to "player 1" so the movement works (which is now done).

I'm going to have to refresh my memory on the xbox coding before I 'help' you any more or I could end up getting even more muddled up!

I'll get to work on my promised example today. I've also got another xbox project nearly ready which I did most of the coding for ages ago, which can actually be played as a 4 player co-op game- the handling for that was super complicated but I did end up with a system that worked so I'll have a look at that.

In the meantime (and this applies to all XNA xbox devs) I recommend buying a second controller and a memory unit. I'm happy to help you (and others) test but this stuff gets complicated real fast and it's a lot easier to be able to test the multi-controller scenarios as you code.

  • ColeJ - Apologies for being a pain. I understand how frustrating it is. My original system set Player Index for Profile and MarketPlace login, so I thought I could force which is why I changed it. Now that I have got Joystick 2 working, I will just put my old code back in for Profile and Controllers, if that works (which I think it should) then I'm ready for Peer Review as I see nothing else available.

Also, if it does work, seen as though I did it once before, I will now have full knowledge of the controller + profile handling! About friggin time lol

  • Cole + Anyone else interested; Here is the latest (and hopefully) final playtest release before Peer Review.

Please login to see this link.

It contains all the fixes above including Controller + Profile fixes.

Touching wood to hope this passes the controller issue.

    Thanks

  • Cole,

I managed to grab a second controller and tested, it works perfect as it should! :D

The only thing now is MU selection, as I don't have a memory unit. It logs in on the right pad, uses the right pad so I just need this testing if possible.
The above link contains the update.

    Kind Regards
    Danny

  • Fantastic!

Cole, I cannot thank you enough for your assistance especially with the debugging you've been an essential shoulder to lean on. I'll ensure I pop you in the credits!

I just did another test (now I have my second pad) and I managed to throw a Code4 on purchasing. I believe this was because I had
    +Player(s) can purchase
    +Game is in Trial Mode

    But i had no:
    +Player(s) have signed in

Just re-compiling now to see if that works, I see no reason why it should then we're off to Peer Review. Due to the lack of Playtest reviews I am hoping I can at least get it peer reviewed, I have reviewed quite a few games on the AppHub website however it would appear not a single person has tested mine even with a link in sig and extensive Twitter posting. Let's hope...

  • I haven't had time to do a complete thourough test (and also Microsoft have changed the XNA site so all my saved links to the checklists/guides are broken!)

I just checked the common pitfalls that I had to deal with. It's worth checking through as thoroughly as you can before submitting for peer review.

  • Well, I just tested again after a recompile and it still throws a Code4 if I try purchase with an offline account, is this not a fail?
I tried on second controller with my ONLINE (not apphub) account and that simulated a purchase. I think Code4 is ok if you try and purchase with an offline account? I cannot find the Evil Checklist since MS changed the websites and Google holds no cache even for the exact URL.

Edit: (Found): Please login to see this link.

Edit2: Silly me, because it doesn't show in the condition I missed that I had copied the condition (Player(s) can purchase) with an index of 1, when in fact it should be 2,3,4 separate. I'll recompile and test now.
