Pull Playercharcter up a Ledge with a nifty Animation

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I'm a bit confused how to do that with a animation like in Metroid Fusion.

Please login to see this media element.

    I tried it with this:

Please login to see this link.

I have a path movement setup so if the Playerflag is 8 and the joypad is being pressed up the path movements come up and the new animation is played. Well... in theory it worked (like so many other ideas *lol*) but in short it really sucks. xD
Am I being stupid and trying something which is easy to do in a other, maybe better/faster way?

If I dont use the Animation for climbing up and only use the path movement it looks ok, but well, I'm trying out new stuff so I give it a shot. :)

If you need more, then just tell me. ^^

  • That's a link to the old Clickteam website, which is why there are lots of broken links...

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

  • Im guessing you have a Character hanging from a ledge, and you want him to trigger some kind of anmimation or function wich pulls him up and makes him stand on the ground.

The ledge climbing in Zeb is not like the ledge climbing you describe or as shown in the video.

In Zeb the player is able to hang from Ledges.
When the Character is hanging from a Ledge in Zeb, the Player can do a regular Jump and navigate to land on the Ground above ( it is not an animation wich pulls the Character up untill standing on the Ground ).

    ...
    My suggestion:

( 1 ) - Make this design consideration. Make sure all ledge hanging points ( or however you define your lede hanging points ) are located the exact same Y distance from the Ground above.

( 2 ) - Create an 'ClimbUp Animation' wich triggers when the Character is hanging from a Ledge and the player presses UP/ JUMP.
When creating the Animation you will need to take into cosideration the distance between the Ledge Handing Point and the Ground Above for it to look perfect.

( 3 ) - When the Animation finishes, simply set Animation to Stopped and reposition the Character correctly so it will look seemless.

There is bound to be some trial and error with the Animation Creation and Repositioning ( 2 and 3 ), but making sure the distances between Ledge Hanging Points and Above Ground is crucial for it to work and look consistent( 1 ).

How can i change username and display name?

  • I get your Idea if you use some type of qualifier or objects that needs to colide AND are not on your character.
I dont use qualifiers though... On my character there are allways 4 little images (basicly 1 pixel only) attached that allways scroll with my character. If right_up_image DON'T collide AND at the same time right_down_image collides with a backdrop, then the character is hanging in his hanging_on_ledges_pose.

Right now I almost got it right. Need a little finetune and maybe the file from ryan can help me out, too.
