My new game for android is out now on Google Play!

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

Would really apprecitate good ratings and your support!

PS. Note that the android exporter is still in beta. The game runs fine on newer devices but older devices running android 2.2 may run into problems.

  • On 2.3.6 , some of the menus do not display at all, I have to guess what option I am hitting. During gameplay, the resolution is cropped much smaller than my display. (Samsung Conquer that plays most top 20 2d games on Google Play and Android Market, as well as many 3d games with no problems).

Fun to play, but hard to play on its cropped screen, as some of the controls o not register all the time. Also, your $2.19 paid version shouldn't be up, might make some players upset. I was about to buy it, but decided to test the free version first. Android phones have a much larger install base of devices for 2.3.7 and earlier than newer versions. Please login to see this link.

  • Well thats not good but its due to the fact that the android exporter is not quite finished yet. I'll have to put up a disclaimer about older android versions.

The thing is, it works very nicely on a galaxy s2, s3, htc one x, nexus phones and tablets, so it seems to work fine on many of the newer devices. Of course there's a bigger market for the lower android versions but as it is now there's simply no choice. Its still better to have it out than nothing. :) It even works well on my old HTC desire which is running 2.2, but its much too slow due to an old GPU.

Good thing you went for the free version first, I'll def put up a warning about older phones and android 2.3 and below (I had a warning about 2.2, but I'll extend it to 2.3 and make it clearer), and tell ppl to try the free verions first. Thanks for intending to buy it though! :)

Would still be really interested in feedback from people with other devices, both if it work and if it doesnt!

  • Congrats on the release though! :)

Releasing on Android is like releasing on PC. You have to have 10-20+ alpha and beta testers and a variety of hardware to test your app as best you can with no or low budget. The public usually will find a ton more bugs that we wouldn't think are possible.

If your game plays well on Kindle, you could make a version just for Kindle HD and sell on Amazon

  • Motorola ATRIX. 4g 2.3.6
    Nice little game!
I have played up to level 3 so far until it crashed and forced closed on me. I had to replay level 3 over and it crashed again ( just after the 3rd wave started). Besides that everything else worked fine.
I will try some more later.
Oh ya, I got the free version.
    Good game.

  • Installed the free version but unfortunately it just displays a black screen for me.

My hardware is a bit older Huawei Ideos X5 running Android 2.2.1.

I did enjoy the screenshots and graphics style, though. :)

  • Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like it, too bad the runtime is still a bit rough.. hopefully this will get better as the runtime gets out of beta and is officially released. But it's really good to get some feedback on which hardware and android versions if works for, and which is doesnt. So far it seems like 2.3 but mostly 2.2 have issues. I'll post some of this feedback in the android beta forum as well! Thanks

  • SirEatAlot - Well done on your release!
So the Android Exporter might be out for Xmas (hint, hint!). What's the minimum Android OS that exported games will run on, eg Froyo (2.2.x), Gingerbread (2.3.x) or Honeycomb (3.x)? I don't have an Android device, yet, what models to people recommend?

  • Nexus 7. Especially as the price of the 16gb model has come down in price, it's a steal for the power you get.

  • Thanks AyreGuitar! Yes I sure hope it will be out by christmas, and I sure hope the major problems (crashes n such) are ironed out by then.. I believe the min android version is 2.2.. they used to have an option that included 1.6 but that has been removed (good thing).. all versions above should be good eventually but as it is now, everything below 4 seems a bit shaky.. at least for the things im doing in my game.

Regaring models, yes the nexus 7 is really nice (specially since my game runs really well on it ;) ) and for phones, as of now, htc one x and samsung galaxy s3 are really good phones.. the new google phone nexus 4 also seems really nice!

  • Just a quick note to let ppl know that I've updated the game on google play! Version 1.2 should have better stability for androind 4.0 and above. At least on my samsung galaxy s2 it has not crashed yet!

I removed a lot of angle rotations for active objects and strangely this seems to fix the crashes, at least on my phone.

So if it crashed for you before, try updating, would really like to know if it helped.

For android 2.x versions I dont think theres any improvement with this update, there needs to be a new version of the androind runtime for that.

  • I updated my phone to Android 2.3.5 (this is the furthest it can go) and downloaded your game again. Worked much better (no black screen this time), played a couple of levels. One random crash though in the menu after pressing the back button (could not replicate this issue) for which I had to reboot the phone. But otherwise the game was nice. :)

  • SirEatALot -- I think you should be able to tell Google Play what versions of Android your game will run on.
So until (and if) old moldy versions of Android can be supported by the exporter maybe block them from your game.

Android runs so much better on version 4 -- I hope we see a big shift to the majority of users on that version and above.

Hopefully no new devices are coming out that use versions below 4.

Old & moldy perhaps, but maybe good to still keep in mind that every 7th of 10 Android users have these operating system versions running on their Android device today. Even if 100% of new devices are running Android 4+, these moldy ones will continue to be very important group of users at least for the next 12-18 months.

  • True there is a large bunch of below 4.0 users out there but on the other hand -- already almost 30% of the user base is running 4.0 and above.
Its growing really fast and at an extremely quick rate.

2.3 was released in 2010 so hopefully all those users will be getting new devices when their contacts expire in the next year or so.
I envision a very fast turnover since 4 is just so much more powerful and stable then the earlier versions.

MJK, thats good news! The back button has been difficult even for me on android 4 so hopefully this will get better before release.

I've already gotten confirmation that the main issue causing the crashes during gameplay was due to a bug in angled collision detection and has been fixed in the next android runtime version.

Jeff, yes that may be a good idea, but this is controlled by the androidmanifest xml file in the apk package and can't be changed from mmf. This should be added to the android properties in my view. However, since I've learned how to manipulate the manifest myself I've actually changed the lowest version from 2.2 to 2.3 in the latest release.

I could change to 4.0 and above as you suggest but as MJK points out, then you loose a lot of users which is kinda sad. I'd rather see the runtime at least working without crashing for 2.2 and 2.3 on, maybe not all, but most devices. But I agree, 4 is a much better version for android.
