Opinions on next-gen consoles?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Will you buy a next-gen console ? If yes, which will you buy ?

Personally, I will not buy a console right on their release days, I will buy the PS4 in 2/3 years.

  • I'll probably get the Xbox One when it comes out. I would get the PS4, but I think I'll prefer the Xbox's games (Halo 5, Minecraft, Forza 5 and other exclusives). Plus, it'll probably be the console my friends get.

I'm really annoyed though about the fact that they've DRM'd preowned content, the fact that you have to connect the Xbox to the internet every 24 hours to play games (why?) and the fact that it's 25% more expensive than the PS4.

  • What with region locking, DRM, online requirement and not being able to play any game after 24 hours if your internet goes down... has to be the PS4 for me. Normally i would buy both, but harsh DRM like that is just too much.. punishing good users with bad practice. It's a shame cause i really wanted to get Dead Rising 3, but I stayed away from SimCity, and the need to get one goes away quite quickly once you realise its less hassle :)

  • Completely agreed. Got to have a console I can take to a summer house without an internet connection, and I've always liked trading games - which will now become so much less interesting. As I see it, it's important that the xbox one fails and everybody gets the PS4, for the reason of xbox one's intrusive DRM. Maybe then, the giants will get that they can't punish us users with unwanted restrictions just to stop a few pirates, when they should really aim at creating the best possible product for us. After all, we are the ones who gives them money for their products. It's thanks to us they can make consoles at all.

They Please login to see this link. about this, talking about a future without discs, and how these game trading restrictions doesn't appear to make sense now, but they will later. But how's this the future in the first place? Steam has sold downloadable AAA games for a long time now, which you can use on any computer if you log in with your own username. Oh, and there's an offline mode too. Sure, you can't trade games on Steam, but in that context it's more acceptable as each game isn't strongly associated to a physical object you can carry around. So, if Microsoft sticks to storing data on physical objects, people will want to trade those because it's such a natural thing to do. They can't both eat the cookie and keep it. Imposing weird restrictions and say "but it makes sense for games that aren't on discs" - for games on discs... what?

  • I am with PS4 mainly due to the internet thing. It's just not reliable on my place. And it also means additional on-going cost for me if I need to be online each time I want to play a game :(... not cool...
Xbox One, Kinect, camera, online... what if someone manages to hack the camera?

  • As a PC owner the only reason to buy either is the exclusives... the specs on a recently upgraded PC will always exceed the console.

I bought an Xbox 360 for the Alan Wake exclusive and since then I've missed out on Heavy Rain, Journey & The Last of Us. The only Xbox exclusives are generic shooters (Halo and Gears of Wars) which i couldn't care less about... I won't be making that mistake again.

  • If I were to get either the XBox One, or the PS4, it would be the PS4. However, I've already got a Wii U. If I were actually interested in more games than what the Wii U has (or will have), then I would probably be interested in a PS4 (even though I have a Wii U), but, as it stands, quite a few of the games people would buy a PS4 for are M-rated games (or haven't been rated yet and are almost certainly going to be rated M (first-person shooters, etc.)). I haven't exactly looked into the PS4 or XBox One's game lineup, but the little I know about it is that (the fact that quite a few of them are M-rated, or other games I wouldn't be playing). Anyway, for me, Wii U. PS4 sounds like a good console though, so I can't blame anyone for choosing it. One last thing (this is a common joke I've been reading on the internet):

The XBox One is called that because it's taking 359 steps back.

  • I like both the PS4 and the Xbox One. The Xbox One is better though :)

Really? You think that with the Kinect almost always on (there is a way to turn it off, from the sounds of things, but turning off the XBox One isn't necessarily going to cut it, which makes privacy issues come to mind), internet connection required (once every 24 hours, or you can't use the system until you can connect it again), limits on used games, games need to be downloaded to the hard drive, 100$ more expensive, and the fact that they both basically use the same hardware isn't bad? I mean, come on, have you looked at their specs? Same RAM amount, processor type, hard drive size, etc. The difference is that the XBox One has bad requirements (and some exclusives), and the PS4 (which also has some exclusives) doesn't.

  • Little tip for those who were sleeping during E3 :
PS4's online multiplayer is now part of PlayStation Plus (5$/€ per month, 50$/€ per year), which also includes free games, sales, automatic updates... Seems a good deal !

You talk as if there won't be any other games released? In fact I don't really understand the point of console wars anymore. Its something that's annoyed me with this years E3, and having worked on an xbox one game for the past few months I see the potential in the console despite being a big fan of the PS3 and never previously owning an xbox. The PS3 and 360 have done well in their own rights in the end, the same will happen for the next gen consoles, including wii u once some decent games are released.

And Nifflas, yes Journey is good, but it really isn't worth buying a console for.

  • Tbh, as a PC gamer I'll probably just get whichever one clickteam makes an exporter for first :P

But with their indie-friendly attitude I'm leaning heavily toward PS4. More powerful hardware with no intrusive motion sensors or online DRM that costs £100 less? That's a no brainer...

I will say that MS demoed some pretty impressive looking AAA titles at E3 though, and they have a lot of the biggest franchise games behind them so I don't think X1 will do badly in terms of sales.

  • Don't underestimate the Wii U's power (more GPU than CPU), and the PS4 is doing a lot of things right. Mark Cerny and Dave Perry are smart and awesome industry veterans helping get the right things in place for games for now and into the future with PS4 and Sony's acquisition of GaiKai.

All of the game consoles for next gen are using AMD GPUs, and many game companies are going to be focusing on AMD video card and chipset tech for the next 5-8 years. nVidia will be licensing out some of its tech to other manufacturers in mobile and other platforms, so it will get interesting.

I wish we had a 3d exporter and Clickteam was a Nintendo publisher so that we all could publish 3DS titles through Clickteam ;) The 3DS is an amazing system with inputs and gameplay options you can't really get anywhere else. Wii U will pick up steam this fall and next year the Wii U and PS4 should have the most amazing games outside of about 10 exclusive ones for Xbone.

I have enjoyed Microsoft's OS for decades up until 8, and love the Xbox and Xbox 360. Right now, they are in this weird place of trying to appease copyright laws for the other big content companies, and I think they will be hurting themselves with some of their decisions.

It's not about one game, it's a lot about attitude. Sony secured a three game deal with a cool company to do unique games, and the third happened to turn out being one of the most beautiful games ever (not talking about graphics now, but the interaction between players, though it looks and sounds incredible too). They also have exclusives like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. There's The Unfinished Swan and Dyad (the latter being PS3 exclusive at first but is now for desktop too), and some cool PSN stuff (Locoroco, Patapon). Point is, Microsoft doesn't support this kind of stuff, they're very generic and uninteresting and mainly brag about games where males kills other males with guns or swords, like their entire target audience is fourteen year old boys. I can see why Journey showed up on the PS3 among other cool exclusives, rather than on the 360 - the whole point being that if the pattern repeats, the PS4 is where we'll see good stuff.

Then, when it comes to Journey itself, I'd actually get the PS3 over it. The first time I played it, the game paired me with an amazing person and I was really moved by the whole experience. That's something that happens extremely rarely. It can be years between each film, game, or album that can do that to me. I'm seriously addicted to the game, it's a good learning experience for anyone who's developing online games and want to go beyond "either we fight each other, or we fight together", and on top of that, it has some of the most amazing glitches I've ever seen in games.

  • Xbox One no longer requires an internet connection to play offline games. Also no more limitations on sharing/reselling games.

  • Yeah pretty amazing step back, considering all the "Future" online stuff they sprouted.

Probably pick one up at some point in the distant future, but not until its drop considerably in price, as Kinect is not worth $100 to me. PS4 all the way :)
