Menu, Size of apk and stay in background...

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I would like to ask some questions:

    1. Is there a way to get rid of the menu bar appearing the first time i click in my application?
    2. Why when i replaced a wav sample with an mp3, twice the size (in terms of mb), the final compiled apk was smaller?
    3. Is there a way to have the application running in the background even if the mobile locks?

Thank you for your responses! :)

  • 1. the loading of the game seems really quick, it loads each frame one by one, so if you have the first frame of the game really simple, perhaps just a small backdrop, then you would hardly ever notice that bar.
    2. sounds strange.. perhaps android has a minimum khz rate and mmf converts it? i don't know
    3. To keep the application running, all you have to do is uncheck the "end application when not in foreground" box, but i noticed that sometimes it quits on you anyway when leaving it for a while, running other applications etc. Locking and unlocking the phone however doesn't make the game stop on my phone.

  • 1. Maybe i wasn't very clear. There is a menu bar that appears during all the game but it only appears the moment you click for the first time in your running app. Check the screenshot!

At the bottom the 3 dots are supposed to launch a menu which in fact doesn't exist!
    2. yeah i know...

    3. Ok i will try it!

  • what version are you using?, the latest beta should keep this bar on and showing the 3 dots but the menu is always available, there is no way to hide the action bar above honeycomb, that is attached to the android OS, so if you force to hide, the first touch always goes to the action bar to bring it up.

this is not occurring in below api of honeycomb where the concept of the action bar was not implemented inside the OS. so you will no see it.

you may check that any of the games or apps available above honeycomb does not hide the action bar, or if they do is because is not attached to the OS (maybe OUYA or any other console)

  • Ah.... I see.... Interesting. So in fact it is better to keep the bar always on so the first click is not lost... Yes i am in 4.0+ android... Thank you very much for the reply.

  • Do you happen to know if this bar has always the same height in every mobile? How we can achieve to show the application in the native resolution?

  • I only have 2.3 on my test device, but i assumed the on-screen menu buttons only displayed on devices without physical menu buttons, and that my game resizes accordingly when using "fit inside and adjust window size" so it will look the same as on a device with physical buttons? so if i move an element to "Y Bottom Frame" (or right in landscape), it will be visible above the menu bar and not hidden under it?

  • It will be, but only after the first touch, and I think you also must have a frame change or restart the frame to update the screen positioning. When the app starts up, and until you touch the screen, "Y Bottom Frame" will be behind the menu bar.

  • Yup. This is not the way Android apps are supposed to function, but that's the way it works for now.

Also, If you set the app to allow the Status Bar to be shown, it does not do this and works properly.

  • In my phone, before you touch for first time the screen, the menu is hidden and the application is filling fully the display. Thus, since i made the application to run in my phone's native Resolution, before you touch for the first time you have 1:1 scale.

After you touch, the menu appears and the application fits the screen. Like if you had lower resolution device. I guess, the way it fits, depends on the option you have chosen for resize but i am not sure. I haven't checked this.

There is a possibility though, that it is an OS driven resize. Now that i am thinking of it, i have no black stripes in my game (normally i should)...

Hmmm, i have to check this...
