It Never Ends Demo 9: The Quest for Feedback

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

    If I can make it happen, It Never Ends will be a shoot'em up with evolving enemies. I grew up playing games that were based on patterns. Since then, I've noticed that most game AI's still use patterns which we then learn, and exploit. In INE, the aliens are redesigned, physically and strategically to provide a fresh experience with each set of 10 waves.

    Since this process is entirely random, you don't know what you will get. Sometimes, the enemies are pathetic. Sometimes they are frightening.

    I'm not looking to make the next Angry Birds, but hopefully, I can make a game with some replay value when someone has 20 minutes to kill.

  • Looks good mate, i thought it was just going to be like space invaders styl game, but the upgrades and being able to go back to the shipyard made it really unique and strategic.
    I think the concepts a good one. I know its only a demo, but i did notice that sometimes when the bullet collided with an enemy ship it wouldn't destroy. Seemed like only one in the pair of ships could get hit?

  • Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot. It sounds like you encountered aliens with the Illusion special ability; player blasts go straight through them. You have to destroy the real ship.

  • You should make it evident that the other one is a hologram then, to avoid players from assuming your game is just bugged. I suggest desaturating, adding scanlines, and making it flicker a little. It doesn't have to be obvious, but a lot of the time the player reacts on reflex rather than consciously choosing where to shoot and even relatively similar holograms are usually enough to fool the player a few times.

  • I think you're right, Jacob. I'll tinker with the hologram's transparency a little.

    When Macca02 commented on this, I later considered having it flicker only when shot. Perhaps I will do both now.

    I have addressed some suggestions made in this forum. If I did not implement your suggestion in this demo, it does not mean that it was ignored. I may not have had time to make the change, or I'm waiting for more feedback to match yours.

  • Demo 12 is now available. Although there were many changes listed on my site, the biggest change is the removal of the energy system. People hated energy management, so it's gone. The end result has made the game easier.

    So, naturally, I had to give the aliens a boost.

    Naturally, this most likely means that I ruined whatever game balance I had worked on before.

    Help? I need to know how difficult the game is. Remember your special ability choices. Worse comes to worse, you can use a nuke to wipe them all out and force them to mutate. The other specials have been modified as well.... oh, and there's a repair bot now too.

    Unfortunately, I wasn't able to clean up the text screens. I tried, but the resolution is making things difficult. I tried using in game text, and graphics, but it all looks the same: horrible. Remember, this is meant for the iPhone, so I hope that explains my problem.
