Making a dropdown menu to launch software

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hey all

I could have sworn there is an object that does this - but apparently not so. All i want to do is have a menu system in my app, which for example once clicked drops down and allows me to choose different programs or websites and then launch - kinda like what you normally have in windows i guess.

I've tried all the objects i'd assume did something like this with no joy. I'm all for creating one myself, but i want it to be as clean and simple to add new shortcuts too. (the way i have in mind.. maybe not so much)

could i have any advice please?

edit: as another workaround, i can use the built in menu system although i wanted the option of having the meny bar elsewhere in the app.

edit: hmm does anyone have any idea how this menu works? launching website/app shortcut things is a nightmare! for example, menu option doesnt always seem to choose the correct option in the event editor. grr. It seems to work somewhat if i just modify the original content.

  • I'm not sure whether this is because you're on Standard or not but here, I can create a menu that launches external programs no problem. Even websites.

For anything associated with MIME, you can just type:
Launch External File/Program: Please login to see this link. and it will auto-launch in the browser... or am I mis-understanding your OP here?

  • Sorry yes I can do that. I meant if there was a way of using an object to replicate a windows style drop down menu, like you use in mmf2/Microsoft office etc for example.

The built in standard one ( ie from the application properties edit menu) works and would probably be fine . I'm just getting some weird results from it. Ie what does the "&" mean and why do some of the options have it in the middle of words ie pass &word. I get check boxes appear even if I don't select them too. It just doesn't seem to work as expected.

I'll grab a pic in a bit and post to show my issue.

  • I think i understand the OP.
Unfortunately i don't think there is an extension that can do this (though i hope i'm wrong), a custom menu will probably be needed.
You could do it with inbuilt system menu, though as you said you can't "customize it" and put it anywhere.

  • The & before a character means it's the keyboard shortcut for this option. Eg. Pass&word means you can do Alt+W to bring the same thing as clicking on it.

  • Ah I understand. No, at the moment there isn't a way to do this, however, 2.5 or 3 will rectify this (one of them, possibly 3).

& is used to show in dialogs/menu's which letter is to be underlined, so if the user uses the keyboard to access the file menu (ie: Ctrl+F) he can then choose which menu item to select with the keyboard by selecting the corresponding underlined letter.

If you need an &, then do &&.

Custom menu is going to be the only way forward from here for the skinning side of things.
