Hey, guess what, another tutorial

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • We need a tutorial to teach Physics at the same level as Chocobreak.
This is the reason why I worked on "FlowerClick", a simple physical game explained from A to Z.
If you are interested, please read it and tell me what is wrong and what mistakes I have made.
Does it seem like a good introduction to physics to you?

Please login to see this link.

    Thanks, Francois

  • Francois, it seems pretty good so far, but there are a few bugs. When the character is picking up a flower it doesn't work. The flower doesn't get destroyed like it should. At the start of the frame, the first flower is destroyed even if the character doesn't touch it. Seems that way with all of them? That's what I found so far, but I will continue to test...

EDT: I was able to fix the flower destroy issue. Had to add and change a few lines. I'll keep testing this and post here.

  • ZIP file version, please?

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

  • Yes, I said somewhere (cant remember where) that it would not work with the current version.
The collision mask in the Box2D world in the current version is only made from the first image of the object. In this case, the character sitting on the car. So it does not work w<hen he is bending.
So I am calling the normal collision routines after Box2D collisions to make it work.
As this takes time, this is only a option in the properties.
I will add, when the bugs reports that I get everyday clear out, an option to recalculate the Box2D mask on the current image of the object.

  • You are the first person who has told me about iZarc. However, that being said, plenty of people have told me about, say, WinRAR. I've also heard about 7Zip plenty of times. I think I'll go with one of those, not iZarc, since I only just heard about iZarc. Also, that is once I get around to getting one of them on here, which won't be right now.

  • Hi Francois,

I've updated the ODT to make some of the wording flow better and have added some comments that I thought up while following the tutorial (denoted by ## so that they're searchable). Unfortunately I was unable to reattach it as an ODT or DOC due to the forum's restrictions on file types, so here is a plain text copy:

It's a good introduction to getting physical objects to interact with each other, though I think it's quite important to note that the game isn't very exciting - it's slow and uninspiring to new users who are coming at this from nothing! I think that increasing the velocity of the car from the suggested 10 to about 25-30 goes a long way to spruce it up - you could include this in your list of suggestions for the users to try out at the bottom.

You could always attach it in a ZIP file.
