Fusion 2.5 - Frequent crashes in the Expression Editor

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I just wanted to bring up that since upgrading to Fusion 2.5, I've had very frequent crashes ("Fusion 2.5 has stopped working") while typing in the Expression Editor. I can't really pin down a specific situation where it happens, but it seems to happen most often after just having typed an Expression(", as if it's getting ready to search for the name of an object.

Has anyone else been having problems with this? I wouldn't discount something to do with my netbook.

  • Hey David,

It was a resource leak that Y/F managed to (hopefully) nail down, it's been released in the .28 update, although I'm unsure when people can access that, hopefully in the next day or two, or over the weekend. But rest-assured it's def. in there...

If you have access, it's currently in the 2.5 Owners Lounge!

  • Literally something popped up not too long ago when I was in the expression editor, but it didn't crash everything.

Something along the lines of "Internal application error occurred". I had a moment where I was messing with the editor switching between "Missing quote", "Syntax error", "Valid expression" and adding spaces between quotes... after my moment, this dialog appeared. The editor didn't let me type any more, "OK" was greyed out, so I hit "Cancel" and all was back to normal.

Edit: Ah, Danny got here 5 mins earlier, that explains the dialog message.

  • I also have a lot of crushes, once every few minutes. Mainly happen when I try to edit existing conditions in the event list editor.
When I select edit in the popup menu, the expression editor will not load and the software crushes.
Its a random bug (=nasty), but it happens frequently, so hopefully it will be easy to detect.
Due to this issue I save every few minutes. I hope CT will fix the issue quickly.

Welcome to the forums Glanlunca! Whilst it's not specifically related to this thread, it's normal this happens.

You've got a mixture of strings and values. Wrap values using Str$( 123 ) to turn them into text. Val ( "123" ) will turn values into strings. These buttons are in the expression editor.

If you still need help, you should start a new thread.

  • I am getting a lot of frequent crashes in the expression editor and the software is updated too. It happens at random in the expression editor, either when typing an expression, or editing a currently established expression. I have been forced to type out all expressions I wish to use within a text editor and then paste them in because the expression editor is, in my honest opinion, too unstable to edit in directly. I hope you guys can find a solution for it. I never had this many crashes in MMF2.

  • ffomega, how updated is it? What version are you using? This was only an issue during CF2.5's beta release/really early release versions as far as I know, so it's likely that you are encountering a slightly different issue, even if it's similar in nature...

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

  • I would think the expression editor could become unstable in 2.5 for large or complex expressions. The larger (or more complex) they are, the longer it takes for Fusion to parse them. That's only because of the "live" checking it does compared to when MMF2 required you to click "Check expression".

When this happens to me: I patiently wait for it to catch up, but I suppose if you click/type too much at once, the OS will think it's "not responding" and that could be one reason why it crashes.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have 2.5 (most updated build) and I get crashes in the expression editor all the time.

Roughly 40% of the time I'm in there I get a crash that 'MMF has stopped working' and you know how it goes from there. It's only happening while I'm in the event editor but it happens way way too often and I finally got sick of it and decided to search here for answers.

Because of this problem, I have to save constantly but it's extremely frustrating just the same. I thought maybe because I was running 2.5 on a computer with XP that might have been why but I doubt all you guys are also still running an OS as old as that.

P.S: lh37- These aren't even complex expressions most of the time. Even something like "Alt val A of object + 1" or whatever can cause these crashes.
