Is there (or will there be) a lacewing client for iOS?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • I've been hunting around the forums, but I'd like to know if there will be a lacewing extension for iOS in the upcoming year of 2014?

I'm planning ahead if I can port a project to the iOS platform, however, my decision will be heavily influenced to not to purchase the exporter if I know the Lacewing Relay Client is not going to be available especially with no plans to.

I see it's on the to-do list, if it's coming is another question:

    - Check iOS compatibility

I've also found in my search there's a disconnect bug that's hasn't been fixed for a long time... :(

  • While the liblacewing has been updated frequently, the Lacwing extension it self has not been updated since build #20. James is still pretty busy and when he finally does get time to work on the extension a major roadblock will be that liblacewing no longer contains the relay classes since 0.3.x, so he will have to switch over to finishing lacenet and then convert the extension to use that.

It's probably a combination of all these factors that makes him hesitant to work on it.

  • Thanks for the information LB! That tells me that it's best to wait for a bit... no adding pressure to the hot plate of to-do's. When it's here Clickteam, take my money!

Could I ask what lacenet is? Is that the successor of the relay client?

  • James removed the relay classes from liblacewing with the intent to re-implement the relay protocol again as a separate library. James created the first (unstable) version of lacenet a few months ago and confirmed that it was the aforementioned relay replacement. It still implements the same Please login to see this link. as the relay classes from liblacewing 0.2.6.

The Lacewing extensions for MMF2 will need to be adjusted to use the lacenet library after the lacenet library is stable in the first place.

  • Sounds good! I hope all goes well, thank you again for the insight.

  • Just an FYI: The relay client works flawlessly in Android, I let James know about this and he was shocked but happy. He didn't test them on Android just kinda did an instant port and it does work, has it been tested in iOS? Could be worth a shot with Android insta-port being stable...

  • That's pretty impressive! And they say testing is the most important part... I wondered how Android had an extension so quickly...

If the lacewing client could just 'port' as it is now (maybe with a large warning sign if unstable) to other runtimes with minimal effort, then there's the definition of powerful cross-platform networking with Fusion in the bag.

I don't have iOS so I couldn't test this, but if such was ported, and it's stable enough, then there's my worry of compatible lacewing extensions out of the way. :)

  • Danny, is there a download link for Android version of Lacewing? I've tried to find it with no luck...

  • Lacewing does indeed work amazingly on android, at least as long as you keep everything within the same frame (keeping connection between frames caused a lot of crashes for me)

I got a very popular online app using lacewing for android: Please login to see this link.
And i plan to make more!

It would be very very very nice to get an iOS version of lacewing asap, i would happily donate some cash if we can get this going.

  • Softwarewolf, I would do development but I'd need a Mac OS, and a Mac license - both of which are stupidly expensive.
Looking at about £300-£1000 for it.

Tuna, try Please login to see this link. - if it's not in the downloads on the bottom, I'll add it.

  • I´m happy to help out crowdfunding an iOS port Phi! What do you think? I think we'd be able to get 1000 euros for you or more. !

  • I am bumping this now, as i am still VERY interested in getting an iOS port of the lacewing relay extension. I could happily part with about £100 or $150 for crowdfunding, and hope to see it made asap. For my sake you could skip the binary data, just make sure we can connect, set name, list+join channels, send tcp/udp string and int to channel and peers.

  • Time for another bump, i would be extremely happy to see the lacewing relay client extension ported to ios runtime, i would even like to try myself, although i am not familiar with extension development.

i think i found the source here: Please login to see this link.
could it work if i somehow managed to convert this to the right xcode code and make an .ext file to put in the runtime/iphone/ folder?

it worked for the chartboost object (although my version was extremely limited), but that had the source available in the android runtime, and on lacewing it just says it's internal.
