An open petition to bring back the PS Vita exporter

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hey everybody!

So, looking through the product owners' lounge section under old products, I'm reminded of the ill-fated PS Vita exporter. It started off in Beta 1 and then based on Sony's poor performance with the Vita, it was cancelled.

However, since then the Vita's indie development community has grown immeasurably, it's become a console especially known for its indie content, and although the sales haven't been great, Sony have made it clear that the Vita has a long term plan like the PS3 did, not a short burst the way Nintendo and Microsoft sell their consoles. So since the exporter was started anyway, I wanted to express my interest in it, and see if others agree.

Reasons I feel the PS Vita exporter should be resurrected:

    - This would be Fusion's first games console exporter (not including the OUYA, obviously). If an aspiring developer can get their games on a (mainstream) console, then the development software is a lot more inviting to them, even if it's something with more modest sales like the Vita or Wii U.
    - Sony are very supportive of indie developers on the Vita, Sony even approached me personally requesting MANOS be ported to the Vita, I think they'd work hard with ClickTeam to get the support of more developers.
    - Our big competitor, Scirra, has just put out a Wii U exporter for Construct 2. I think we need some kind of console option(s) to keep up with them.
    - Game Maker games are out there on the Vita (Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Super Crate Box), if some Fusion games were to get out onto mainstream consoles too, it'd do Fusion's reputation a lot of good and I know we need to shake the reputation Fusion gathered from the days when pirate copies were passed around amongst inexperienced fangame creators.
    - As mentioned above, Sony aren't abandoning the Vita, they have a long-term plan for it. The sales go up and down month by month and they have it all planned out. With the PS4 now available with the Vita remote play for example, they're hoping to get a lot mor eVitas out there.

If reinstating the PS Vita interests you, and you'd purchase the exporter, please reply in this topic, to show CT that we're interested. :)

  • I'm all for as many serviceable exporters as possible, however, a WP8 exporter would be more attractive to us then Vita.

In the changing landscape of 'casual indie' games, supporting as many users as possible across the most popular platforms is the best chance for financial independence.
Once you have poured your blood sweet and tears into a game, hitting as many viable platforms with your already created assets & designs is the path of least resistance.
In this regard, the WP8 user base FAR exceeds the Vita user base imho.

I am already experienceing team issues over this fact.
While I have been a CT user for years, the others have not, and me being more of a designer then a coder I personally love CT products.
Those on our team with actual code talents have already started moving towards other options due to the lack of WP8 support.

Unfortunately they are pressuring me to move away from Ct products since our intent was to create a game, deliver it on as many viable platforms as possible.
They are thinking if they need to take my MMF assets and convert them over for a diff middle ware package why not remove a step?

    Just my two cents.

  • This is a good topic of conversation. arsdigita - A very interesting point you raise there, given your experience and knowledge from what the others are using/aiming for, what would you say the way forward would be? We're always interested in listening to the community and users and finding (viable) ways to keep the product moving forward with the ever-changing and new landscapes... So in this respect, CT are all-ears, but we need this to remain a positive and more importantly, constructive discussion with valid points.

  • I don't know how many clickers would actually develop for the vita.. they complain enough about $50 exporters, are they going to buy a vita to test on? With that said, I don't know much about Sonys plans, but it seems like they're integrating Vita and pS4 closely.. so if a vita exporter leads to a PS4 exporter/marketplace compatibility.. I think we NEED that.

I definitely want to see exporters for the real consoles (PS4, Xbox, WiiU, 3Ds, Vita etc.) if/when it becomes viable.. developing for touch screens is just no fun XD

  • This is something I would LOVE to see! Making phone games is all well and good, but you can't really make games for a proper, dedicated gaming audience the way you can for something like the Vita. I would love to make games for the Vita! It's actually something I've been quietly wanting in the background, options to export games to some of the more hardcore gaming devices outside of the phone market.

I also think it would help those of us making indie games to be taken more seriously, developing games for a proper gaming device, not just casual games for phones. Personally I think both have value (with casual phone games good for the bottom line), but I would like to make some dedicated gamers console games too, for my own enjoyment, and for being known as more of a proper games developer, not just a casual indie dev.

I also see the benefit in a WP8 exporter. Personally, I think you should do both.

And I also agree with Dave about exporters for the consoles. That's something I've been hoping would happen too, especially PS4, Wii U and 3DS - I don't care about the X Box so much..

How I would love to make games for a device that had real buttons and a joystick (and not a PC)!

  • Even as a proud 3DS owner, I'd love to see creations from MMF2/CF2.5 on the Vita. The Vita is a well designed console and it's just screaming for more games, so why not make it easier for people to make games for it through CF2.5?

  • Not sure if its supported too well but what about the XNA exporter and then manually modify the code for MonoGame? That is something I am currently looking at, seeing as how its pretty straightforward converting the code (just a few syntax changes)

Playstation Mobile supports Monogame for free. I'll update when I have time to test things out, but if somebody else beats me to it that's cool too

Is this really an option? I am very interested in this concept. I have the XNA exporter and this solution could mean the difference of me moving over to a platform like Unity to make games possible for Vita/PS4.

  • The core issue here is that the market for Clickteam, ie. the actual number if people who will buy the exporter, is very limited. Taking programmers frm other projects to work on this would delay things like Fusion 3 development, Mac Fusion 2.5 and Mac runtime and lots more besides so it has to be weighed up with these things in mind. In addition, the cost of further developing the PS Vita runtime vs. the potential market would quite likely mean a loss for Clickteam.

Sony do keep promising a lot about Vita, as do Nokia & Microsoft for Windows Mobile, but market forces have yet to prove that these are viable platforms, for the companies and developers alike.

  • Hi,
    I 'm very interesting too..
Hey Distanj i see too, Yoyogames is signed with Sony to publish Ps4/Psvita exporter for Gamemaker Studio, and the beta is comming on 30 April.
it's a shame that Clickteam has not released before export (first beta tester posted on 2012).
    Go,Go Clickteam..
