  • Hi Folks.

For any longtime members of the Clickteam Community who were around here in 2000/2001/2002 or there abouts, you may recall a lot of discussion on the forum about making 3D games with TGF 1 and MMF 1. You may also recall I spoke of the ability to create 3D games using pre-rendered footage and interactive hotspots. At the time I drew up plans for a space game and released one screenshot but the game never materialized because in those days my 3D skills were in their infancy. The paperwork on how to do these 3D gaming techniques was stored and never saw the light of day again...

...Until recently. Those techniques are now going to get their very first use in a first-person role playing game from KnightTrek Productions. It's early days in development right now, but let me introduce...

    Dungeoneer.

Another actual in-game screenshot of Dungeoneer. Choose your path wisely or Darkcore will take you...!! I'm keeping the level of detail for this game very high. The dungeon environments are all textured and dynamically lit which while taking considerable more time to create, the end results are awesome!! Really pleased with how this is shaping up!!

  • Thank you. Please note all current screenshots are from the start of the game which functions as a tutorial to teach you how to play. I'll be releasing some actual dungeon screenshots soon.

  • All the artwork and game are being made by me. The graphics are being created in Lightwave 3D 10.1. The rendering is time consuming and is the slowest part of the games development. I'm trying to make this game in the style of the old Myst games. It's a long term project for sure but I've set myself a goal and a deadline and I intend to meet them.

Redesigned the lights to remove the shadow cast by the frame of the lights which were a distraction. Not as nice looking design-wise, but the overall effect is better.

  • He's using a 3D graphics program, KLiK-iT, which isn't exactly drawing graphics in the traditional sense. The issue I personally have when trying to make 3D models is figuring out how to get textures to work, which I still have yet to do.

My Please login to see this link. (which I actually use), my Please login to see this link. (which I mostly don't use), and my Please login to see this link. (which I don't use anymore pretty much at all really). If there are awards for "'highest number of long forum posts", then I'd have probably won at least 1 by now. XD

  • I hear ya. Like I said I can't draw..LOL. Look how cool Paul's room looks with camera panning, MonoChrome shader and some scary sounds. Very cool Paul..!! You should sell these graphics.

  • LOL!! I love the video! Thanks. I haven't posted any video footage of the game yet but suffice to say, it looks really good when animated, complete with atmospheric music and sound effects and stuff. Bear with me... This is a long term project but it's one I have set myself a release date time frame for and it's being built on a promise to someone that I would make something EPIC! I know I'm the developer but I'm really pleased with how Dungeoneer is shaping up!

The 3D work in Lightwave is the most time intensive stuff. Right now I have an animation rendering. The animation is 1 minute 30 seconds long. It will take 23 hours to render it!! And that's on my beastly desktop! I'd love to release a screenshot of every room in the game but then that would ruin the whole game ;). But I'm releasing a few here and there and what's being released is actual in-game screenshots.

As for the gameplay, Dungeoneer is a dungeon roaming game played in the style of the old Myst franchise. Some of it is playable right now, the whole tutorial section is playable, and I think it plays really well :).

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Keep watching this space, more screenshots, and eventually video footage, to come...

  • LOL, no problem Paul and I had to do it. Just seemed right! Again, looking forward to the game. It's a shame it takes so long to render the graphics, but worth it in the end by the looks of them.

  • The 23 hour render time passed, followed by one hour for Premiere to compile the movie, but the end result was awesome ;). I'm hoping to release first video footage of Dungeoneer in time for Christmas.
