So I finished my game, all working nice and smooth on various Android devices. Then I have added the Admob banner to display at the bottom of the screen during gameplay and exported to Android again.
I got a huge (almost unplayable) frame rate drop whenever my smartphone is connected to internet and banner is getting displayed. When I turn off the wifi, no banners get displayed and the framerate is smooth again. Tried on 3 phones and 1 tablet.
Anyone knows how to solve this? I would like to keep the banners displayed and not loose the framerate.

you are not destroying the ad during play life, right?
you created and leave it there and he is refreshing by itself?
are you using OpenGL 2.0?
is scrolling involved in your game?

There is only one event in that frame: Start of Frame => Show Ad Banner
I do not destroy it, it refreshes by itself.
In the display mode I had OpenGL 1.1
It is an endless runner so it has a lot of scrolling.I will check now with OpenGL 2.0 and let you know if that helped.

Ok Fernando, the OpenGL 2.0 didn´t change anything except stopping the game from running on one of the devices. The other devices keep experiencing significant frame drop when banner is displayed.

I'm getting the same problem...I want to show ad while player is playing the game. but I get fps drop too.

Ads + scrolling = no good.
I haven't tried for a long time, as i ended up getting rid of ads when there was scrolling present because of it.
When the ad renders the framerate takes a big hit.Please login to see this link.

Oh i thought i answered, no so far, nothing i can do about admob and scrolling, also other devs have mentioned is a problem even with full animation.
is in my to-do see a way to improve this.

mmm, the speed of ad depends entirely on the Google play services libs, if you see that a lag exist is due to the time to receive, cache and show a banner, this is present in many games, nothing i can do so far, let me see in January if something i can do.

Hum...this makes total sense....but in my game this lag its like every 10 seconds....on games that shows admob everytime when you are playing, like Flappybirds....there is a lag, but just on first time the ad will show...not when it change after X seconds....
has this anything to do with the refresh rate of the ad?best regards

yes you can change this rate inside admob dashboard,
try to show at 30 secs max. if you detect a slow down use 1 min.
i am sure this will be corrected in next Google play services release.
also show ad banner at start and only destroy when leaving the frame.
