Creating game trailers or demos for Android?

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi all!

It's getting close to the time where I will need to start making a trailer and I have been doing tons of research on the subject. I'm having a really hard time deciding what to go with. I tried VLC, and thinking of fraps but not sure if I can record partial screen. Seems like lots of options for IOS (like Reflector) but not so much for Android.

How do you guys go about making trailers for Android apps? Ideally, I would like a way to record gameplay on the phone itself- which is then transferred to the PC for video editing. Otherwise, it wouldn't look quite right if I recorded it directly off the PC (screen res, mouse, ect). Unless you know of a video recording software that allows me to record "part" of my screen.

Would love to know what software programs you all use to make it happen? What screen recording software do you use and what video editing works best for you? Any links to a guide that you've used in the past it would be most appreciated too! :)

    Thank you so much!

  • I tryed using a recording software installed on my android device, but the software was a little cpu intensive and the framerate of the game dropped a lot and i was not really satisfied.
After that attempt i used fraps and was really happy with the results.
Fraps allows you to record the active game window (without recording the window menus, the desktop and any other stuff you don't need). Just run your project from fusion and then press F9 to start recording. You can also choose to hide or show the cursor on your recordings.
The screen resolution of the video is the resolution of the game window, so it will match your project resolution.

  • Thank you so much MP! Fraps sounds perfect then, everything you described sounds great. What video editing software do you use to edit the clips that you create?

  • If you are interested in a opensource video editing software, blender might be your answer. It's a 3d software that also has video editing capabilities.
Never tried it myself, but after a quick look i find it very interesting.
This youtube video probably will help you to get the feeling of how it works.

  • Nice find Mpnetbox i didnt know Blender can edit videos. How does it rate as a video editor?

  • It look powerfull, I have to watch more video about it, I don't see if you can insert a video inside another video like I did on iMovie.

  • Honestly, a cheap Windows tablet is perfect for this (with fraps), as you don't end up with the mouse cursor on the screen. I picked up an awesome generic quad core atom on Amazon for $100. More than enough to run my games and record. An alternative solution is to switch your windows cursor icon to a hand/touch icon. Just that little bit makes it look a lot more professional. It's also a dream for testing mobile apps without actually transferring a completed project to your mobile device.

  • Thanks all! Blender looks interesting - I'll check that out, glad to know fraps works so well for everyone too. Interesting idea about the tablet, I have one here I can use so I'll do some testing with it and see how the video turns out

  • Thanks for the heads up Dave i wasnt aware of that! I attempted to screen record an app of mine using various screen recording programs and all resulted in terrible FPS. My PC is a few years old but should be more then up to the task spec wise(i7 2600, 8GB ram, AMD6970 2GB GPU) but still results in very poor recordings. Recording straight from the device sounds like the best way to avoid all the overhead. I'm fairly certain I tried FRAPS , but I'll have to give it another go and play around with the settings.
