Not An Application File Message

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

The app runs fine from inside of MFA 2.5 Dev. So, I went back to an earlier version and the same thing happened. I rebooted and the problem persisted. Other application files seem to build and run fine. I went back to an older file of the application that had a good build - I know since the mfa and exe file were dated the same date and time. I copied this file to another folder to be safe and the same thing happened. Again, other application files open, build, and run fine. This is rather disconcerting since I cannot revise the file without completely rewriting it.

I stripped all objects and code, frame by frame and object by object, out of the application file. I kept getting the "not and application file error." The file is now down to no objects and no code and I am still getting the error.

Very frustrating. I am uploading the final file hoping that someone can tell me what is going on.

    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Well, some good news, sort of - I tried building the one-blank-frame file you uploaded and the EXE version works fine on my machine (developer version 284.10). So it's probably not a problem with your MFA.

Trouble is I'm not sure what to suggest from here. Where are you building the EXE to - could it be write protected?

  • DavidN,

Good try. I went into the properties of the exe and made sure that I had all permissions and then to make sure I tried opening the file as an administrator. Same outcome. I noticed that the file size of the exe is exactly what it was for the exe version that is working - so it seems to be making the file, the file just isn't working properly. Why it is affecting this one app and no others is sure a mystery. And driving me crazy.

    Thanks,
    Steve

  • I spent all week working on a new application, finished it up today. When I tried to build it and open the exe file it gave me the "Not An Application File" error message. This is getting really scary. Again, most of the other file I've tried work fine. But this is the 2nd "set" of files that give me this error and I have no way to use the application if I can't make a build. I really need some help here because I can't keep working with MMF if this keeps happening. Again, all of the old saved files do the same thing.

I've uploaded the final MFA file. If someone could build the exe and send it to me, I would be most appreciative. I was just about to put it up for sale.
