[Request] - Open URLs object

Welcome to our brand new Clickteam Community Hub! We hope you will enjoy using the new features, which we will be further expanding in the coming months.

A few features including Passport are unavailable initially whilst we monitor stability of the new platform, we hope to bring these online very soon. Small issues will crop up following the import from our old system, including some message formatting, translation accuracy and other things.

Thank you for your patience whilst we've worked on this and we look forward to more exciting community developments soon!

  • Hi,

I know that it exists an extension Open URLs object, simple object to launch URI throught your web-browser.
The problem, it lacks an option, the possibility to set "_current", "_new", "_parent", "_toplevel" as target parameter

E.g.: If I want to open an URL in same tab, impossible in this case! :(

I know that this extension was developed by Jaffob...

  • Unfortunately this is not possible, the browser decides how it wants to open a URL and if it decides to open in a new tab there is nothing you can do to change that. Maybe there is some feature of certain browsers that you can find by looking in their documentation, but I doubt it exists and even if it did it would not be the same for all browsers.

When a program wants to launch a URL in the user's default browser, it asks the operating system to do it. The operating system finds the browser's executable file and just launches it with the URL. Browsers like Chrome will communicate the URL to the existing browser processes and spin up a new process for the new tab. For security reasons no program can control existing tabs - that would allow e.g. malware to change an existing tab to a similar looking one for phishing attacks.
