I'm trying to make a game using sprites I got off the internet, but when I try to make objects from a file, all of the selections from the "insert an object" menu disappear under each category. I only managed to get it to work once, but I don't know how I did so. Please help!
Could you elaborate? What exactly do you mean by "make objects from a file"?
When I'm editing a scene and I select "Insert Object" and I click on "From File(s)" and select an image, but when I click on the scene the insert object menu comes back up, but there isn't anything to select on what kind of object and therefore I can't use it.
Do you have "all objects" highlighted on the left, in this last popup menu?

Yes, and they are png but nothing still shows up.
Are you able to import the image file directly from the picture/animation editor?

Does this happen only in a specific .mfa or even in a blank new project?
In case this is specific to a single project,
can you upload one of the images and the .mfa you're trying to import to
so we can see if able to replicate the issue?

Odd, this works on my side, I can see icons in the screenshot posted above (post #4)
and clicking one of those the object is created with the graphic file selected.
I'm on build 288.3, used 24 bit png for testing (perhaps not all bit depths are supported?)
That doesn't work for me either. I tried and even though it ends in a .png and I set it to .png, it says "unknown format".Quote:

For me, the window title includes the file name (Create new object (example.png)), but in your screenshot it just says Create new object.Quote:

Edit: The sprites I am using came with an entire sheet and a colored background when I downloaded them, so in order to individualize them and clear up the background I used a program called Piskel to do so. Would that have anything to do with my problems?
@ advaith: sorry, I had masked that window title in the screenshot, mine shows the png file name too!

Okay, after doing a few tests, I am beginning to think that in order to insert objects, the graphics of the object must be at a certain level of complexity. The picture I am trying to import is 8x8 pixels and completely white. That might explain a few things.
strange, it works with the Hello World file...
Honestly, I might have been exaggerating out of frustration when I said nothing would import. I tested it and images more complex than the one I was trying to import worked. It was an 8bit era text sprite that I wanted to use because apparently you can't change the color of text objects, either that or I haven't figured it out yet.
Can someone tell me if it's true whether or not there are minimum requirements for an image to be an object?
Hi ShadowDurza. You can have a 1 pixel object if you want. No minimum, but I would stay with a power of 2 for images. Thus 2 pixels for a minimum.

Thanks! I did a few internet searches and came up with a post somewhere that said you couldn't. Also the first kind of text I was using was the formatted kind.
If you're using the Formatted Text object, you can change the text color using events.
The screenshot I posted is how to change the color in the String object, but you can also change the text color in the String object using events, if necessary.
