A simple motion blur example I made, using layers/transparencies/not saving background... no events involved; Something I've always wanted to do in MMF.

Looks nice!
How does this work? I haven't figured out the whole layers thing. There should be a guide to give mini-tutorials of all the new features.

Well basically, everything has 'save background' disabled, then theres a layer under the objects which is semi-transparent, and a layer under that for the final background. Everything leaves a trail, and the semi-transparent layer gradually erases it.
Press ctrl+k in the fram editor to show the layer toolbar.

Quite a cool effect!

I think you should change the application settings so that it uses the Standard driver. Makes semitransparency run at full speed.

Nice effect, a good demo of the new layer features .

Sorry, but I can't seem to view your TIFF for some reason. In every program I open it in, it says it's corrupted. I tried clearing my Temp Internet Files, which usually fixes it, but ... it wouldn't work. Any chance someone could convert it to JPG or something, and post a link?
That'd be great! I really wanna see this. :P
Thanks,
Doc

Right-click and save the file as motion.mfa
It's a forum issue I guess.

LOL!... um... nevermind. Why are they TIFF files? I thought MMF2 used the MFA format. When I download them they are seen as TIFF files.
I tried opening it in MMF2, and of course, to my embarassment, it worked ... lol!

This is really good. At the moment though, the motion blur is frame relative rather than screen relative, so the blur isn't very correct. I wonder if this could be solved? I've not figured out how to use the layers yet.

Well, of course it's not screen-relative. Each frame, the objects paste themselves onto the screen (and don't erase themselves). The background is semitransparent, so each frame it paints over the trails a little bit. And that's how motion blur works.
Also, layers are pretty easy to learn how to use. To move an object to another layer through the Frame Editor, you drag the object onto the thumbnail of the layer you want to move it to. To see what layer an object is on, just click on it to select it. If you have more than one layer, two numbers will appear. The first number is the layer that the object is on. The second number is the order of the object in relation to everything else.

i agree, change it from direct X to standard. you get a much faster result.
really cool btw.

If only there was a way to surn it off and on.

My point is that a real motion blur is screen (or viewpoint) relative. For example when you drive fast in a car it is the scenery that is blurred, not the car; otherwise you'd have a hard time reading the dash

Think you all have motion blur confused with motion trail...

Motion blur- An object will blur when it is moving relative to the screen.
Motion trail- An object moving relative to the playfield will leave a trail.

I suppose that whenever it's the screen, or the car that should blur, depends on if the game scrolls or not.
What do I know anyway? I havn't checked out the example yet, demo time is out, still waiting for MMF2 which I ordered

Yeah sorry didn't mean literally that nobody here knew what it was, so you agree this is not motion blur?
The dots and the object is leaving a trail in this example.
If it was motion blur first of all the dots previous, current and future position would be composed smoothly onto each frame making a true motion blur. Secondly only the rotation of the object would create motion blur since the "focal point" of the "camera" is fixed to it's position, except when it leaves the sides.
