Layers question
Is it possible to cut a hole in the background of a layer so you can see the layers behind it? I haven't been able to find a way to do it and have been waiting forever for the layers just so I could make a Worms style battle game. If its not there will it ever be? (please)

It isn't currently possible to make a layer *more* transparant. For example, if you were making a Worms clone and had a layer of sand as a quick backdrop then you can't remove just a portion of that sand to allow the user to see through into the layer beneath.
I do not know how hard it would be for an extension to allow for this useful funcitonality.

Re: Layers question
heres an idea, why not create another paste to background action that is like this:
Paste image as ALPHA LAYER to background. That way we could modify the backgrounds alpha layer with ease. If you happen to paste an image with color information, all the engine has to do is to use the monochrome ink effect on it first.
anyone got any better ideas?
edit: or even better formulated: "paste imange into alpha layer of background."
