The version of the Irrlicht engine used in 3D mesh doesn't support binary .x files. You'll have to save them as text .x.
Binary x will be supported in the next version of 3D mesh.

Why should 3D mesh open Quake 3 maps? That makes no sense since it's of no use in a "model viewer" object and it would add alot to the filesize (I guess).
