Overlaying Text on Active Objects

Hi,

I often find myself wanting to display text on top of active objects and run into problems unless I make the text an active object itself. When I use background, or the text object the active objects seem to want to be in front.

When I had this problem with counters I was instructed to turn off a property "display as background" and that fixed my problem. Is there a similar fix here (I can't see it), or do I have to use active objects for text?

It might sound a bit familiar, but turn off the "Display as background" property.
