Questions regarding making a sellable game.
I have plans and ideas on making something I might be able to sell, but I feel I need to ask two things.
I know people have discussed hardware acceleration, but I want to ask if that is happening anytime soon. I need it because I feel a sellable game needs to be at least 640x480, and I also want to make it that resolution. I have quite visual games with lots of effects and rotation, and whenever I try something like it in MMF2's current form I always get slowdowns very quickly after. So, is hardware acceleration coming anytime soon? I'm don't want to be stabbing at you, but it seems it is much more sought after than Vitalize currently is, but I'm probably wrong.
I don't feel having to learn something like C++ should be necessary since I can make all I want, just not... make it run decent.
The second question is, I can sell games with the Standard version of MMF2, right? I need to add some splash screen, right? What are the specifics on that?
Thanks! :)
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
You should be able to make pretty good games in 640x480. Even if CT are working on hardware acceleration, I'm guessing it'd be beta for a while before they recommend you use it in commercial products.
You can sell games made with MMF2 standard so long as you credit Clickteam as specified. The agreement is in the help file as well as this thread.
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
I'm sure I can make some games in that resolution, but I am perfectly sure, from much testing, I can't do what I want.
Even if a beta came now, the final version would be done before my game, I'm certain.
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
But the beta is not coming now, but maybe in a year, or two, or three...

Don't be a dream crusher. ;) Remember, with MMF you can make anything 2D if you're committted to it.
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
There is a fine line between being a dream crusher and being cruel ;) . Saying "Sure the beta will be out in no time!" would be lying and would get his hopes up for no reason O_o.

Except you can't. At a reasonable speed.

vortex: True, true. But he never said 'no time'.
konjak: Clickteam are working on hardware acceleration after Vitalize and Pocket PC support though, right?
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
Zero, I think you can pretty much do anything you want. Having these limits is actually a good thing--imagine a movie production: if the budget is limited, the team will have to use the power of suggestion to make things happen (Alien I). If they've no limit, they'll make another Alien vs Predator.
Re: Questions regarding making a sellable game.
No, it's different when my game will need something big and moving and MMF2 drops half its framerate from just a tiny motion once the game has a decent engine.
I know what it is I want to do, is already limiting me in 320x240 with games that have less things going on than I want this to have.
