Re: About copyright issues
i didnt change your game or anything, i showed you the rules that you are agreeing to when posting files in the file upload forum, lots of people uploaded things to the old forum and thought people would not use the music or sounds, but your agreeing that people can if you upload them
Re: About copyright issues
Yeah, you agree to upload non-copyrighted things when you do upload. If you want to upload something that you intend to keep copyright then you simply cannot upload it... if you upload something that is already copyrighted then you're breaking the rules.
Re: About copyright issues
The rule actually goes like:
Quote:
4. The file does not infringe on any copyright issues
That doesn't mean that you lose the copyright of your creation just because you upload it. It's still yours, and nobody can use it legally without your written permission.
However, beware of the power of misunderstandings. A lot of people do not care what is copyrighted, and there's an infinite number of people who simply do not understand how the rules works, and think that anything that was uploaded somewhere is automatically public domain. If you upload it, it will probably happen that somebody uses it.
Re: About copyright issues
I understand that people ignore rules. And I figured that my work could be stolen; but I don't want people who DO follow rules to believe that it's alright to take someone's work. Pkeod, I don't believe that is what the rule states. It is mine, I made it, and the rules don't say anything about my copyright being voided. It's not too important in this case anyway, the art isn't my greatest and the game was just a little something I threw together. Just wanted to clear things up. And anyway, people keep quoting the upload rules FOR THIS FORUM. As I've said before, I uploaded to MY site.
Re: About copyright issues
By the way, neat_Klicker2, I didn't mean that I thought you stole my work. I understand you were just pointing it out.
Re: About copyright issues
OldManClayton: I used the upload rules to defend you.
Quote:
4. The file does not infringe on any copyright issues
...which means:
"The file you upload must not infringe on anyone else's copyright"
...and does not mean:
"You lose your copyright if you upload the file"
So even if the rules did apply to you, they wouldn't be able to claim the right to use your material. Since there was misunderstandings related to that rule, so of course it's relevant to quote the upload rules to clear out all misunderstandings, because the same thing might happen to somebody else than you, and that person might have used the file attachment thing.
Re: About copyright issues
And I quote:
"Post And File Release
You agree all information and files uploaded to the Clickteam forum are considered public domain.
Clickteam may re-distribute your post and/or files in any format they desire.
Without further compensation or permission required.
If you do not agree, please do not post restricted content to this forum."
In my post above, I was talking about the rules when you upload to this forum.
Re: About copyright issues
Oh? I just searched and didn't actually find those rules anywhere. Were they the rules for the old forum?

Re: About copyright issues
Yes, it's here and still valid for "the Clickteam forum": http://www.clickteam.com/CTforum/faq_english.php3?Cat=
Re: About copyright issues
thanks Pkeod, right there in plain text,
"Post And File Release
You agree all information and files uploaded to the Clickteam forum are considered public domain.
Clickteam may re-distribute your post and/or files in any format they desire.
Without further compensation or permission required.
If you do not agree, please do not post restricted content to this forum.
By using the Clickteam forum you agree you understand the above rules and guidelines.
Updated: 1/02/2002"
Re: About copyright issues
Those rules can't be valid here though, right? A license agreement has to show up before people actually post a file, not be hidden in some old forum somewhere.
Re: About copyright issues
Here is what is says now:
_______
Uploading Agreement:
By uploading a file you agree to the following
1. All material that you upload falls under the policies, rules, and legal notices as per the English FAQ
2. A files that causes harm to a users computer, intentional or not, could result in expulsion from this forum and legal action
3. The uploader has scanned the file with an upto date virus detection program prior to uploading
4. The file does not infringe on any copyright issues.
Download Agreement:
1. You will virus scan before opening or running the program
2. You are using these files at your own risk and hold Clickteam 100% NOT responsible for any problems the files cause.
3. You can not use original graphics or music in new creations unless you ask permission of the poster of the file. Please do this via PM or Email.
I strongly suggest you open any source file in MMF2/TGF2 and examine it prior to running it.
Please do not use the file center as a distribution center for your finished creations. The purpose of the file center is the free sharing of example source code for Clickteam products.
If you do not agree to the above please do not upload or download any files from this forum.
By using the forum you state you understand the above.
________
I would still stand on ... If you don't want people to use your graphics and sounds don't post them in example files. Switch them out for some library graphic or a stick graphic.
Its up to the copyright holder to protect them so don't expect anyone to enforce your copyright but yourself.
Re: About copyright issues
Yeah, those are the only rules I consider :) The "old rules" doesn't apply now. However, be really careful about what you post, because people will believe that they can use it without your permission (although they are not allowed to do that legally).
Re: About copyright issues
It's good that this is cleared up. However, technically speaking, unless Clickteam says that the old agreement is not valid (by removing it) it could still be considered to be in effect.
I think it's better for things that are posted to go into the public domain because it's the source that we really care about here and not the graphics so much. If anyone posted the source to a really, really good game with both awesome gameplay and graphics and they didn't want anyone to use their resources then they may be considered stupid.
Re: About copyright issues
The old agreement is not on the current forum.
Its on our old forum which really would pertain to that forum.
Re: About copyright issues
I was considering that thing about switching graphics next time. Anyway, why are you guys so intent upon proving that it's allowed to do something that a) is a retardedly dumb thing to do, and b) is something you yourselves aren't even doing?? Oh, and for the.. Fifth time?? I UPLOADED TO MY FREEWEBS ACCOUNT. Not the forum. Nifflas, thank you for being helpful in this situation. Neat_Kliker2 and Pkeod, thanks for being wonderfully nice and going and saying that I have no ownership over my handiwork. I really appreciate it. Didn't realize this would turn into a big ol' brouhaha.
My new motto: Respect a person's work, and don't be a big jerk.
Re: About copyright issues
Oh, and I love how every time we clarify a rule, you just go on to something else.
Re: About copyright issues
"Oh, and I love how every time we clarify a rule, you just go on to something else."
Jeff clarified it: not you or me or anyone else that posted except Jeff
Re: About copyright issues
Yah, okay. This whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not going to bug anyone anymore with this. Sorry for any annoyances.
