Error 11FD

I use Install Creator Pro. Recently we have been getting reports from customers saying they are unable to complete the installation of our software because they get an Error 11FD. The software installs fine for me, but since we are getting repeated complaints from a variety of customers, we are concerned. What is this error? When the error occurs, it hangs on a file (usually a .dat file, which is a data file we create). It is incorrectly stating that there is invalid data. Is this error 11FD generated by Install Creator Pro or is it a Windows error message? Any information would be appreciated.

I believe the error message is generated by the installer, but may be caused by a corrupted file, so try re-uploading it (in binary mode).

This error means that the decompression routines cannot decompress a file because its data are corrupt.

This may be due to 2 reasons:

1. Either the problem is in the EXE file. It's usually due to a download error, tell your users to clear their browser's cache and redownload the file.

2. Or the problem is due to a hardware memory problem (either a problem on a memory card or on the motherboard). I know this sounds odd, but this already happened several times.

Also, make sure you use the latest version of Install Creator. There was a bug in the decompression routines for some files with the original build (this problem was not happening randomly though, it was happening every time with specific files).

Thanks for the information. Since I usually resolve it by telling the users to redownload the file, I'm assuming the problem is a download error. The only thing that puzzles me about it is that we have been using Install Creator Pro for many years and this problem has only begun occurring within the past couple of months. I have now downloaded build 29 (we were about three builds behind) so perhaps that will help.

One thing we have noticed that is similar about the reports of the error to us is that the files causing the install problems are large files (ranging from 6MB to 70MB). The most recent one was a 6MB file and the user was using a dial-up connection so I suspect that the file could have been damaged during download.

One final question: you mentioned to tell the user to clear the browser's cache before redownloading. How does clearing the cache help prevent the file from becoming corrupted during download?

If a corrupted download is cached, next time you try to download the file the browser may just use the cached (corrupted) file instead of getting a new clean non-corrupt copy.

If you don't clear the cache, the browser might just return the version in the cache instead of re-downloading it.

I have 1.5GB ram, 512MB is good crucial working ram, the other 1GB is dodgy ram (doesnt even have a make) and was tested with MEMTEST to be bad in several places, although it doesnt effect normal operation, while sharing the large 4GB linux distributions over bit-torrent, it will occasionally restart and give me the "Your system has recovered from a series error" and the 3 hardware error numbers.

Just to make sure I'm perfectly clear on this (so I don't misinform the users), to clean up the browser's cache (for Explorer), the user would need to load Internet Explorer, select Tools>Internet Options, and then select the General Tab. Under Temporary Internet Files, press the Delete Files button. Is this correct?
