changing black default transparency
Hi,
When I import my .png files into an animation, all of the black color in the pictures becomes transparent. I simply forgot how to solve this issue, and would like some help. Would it help to convert them to png instead, before importing (though png would be better as the file sizes are smaller)?
I appreciate the help once again.
Re: changing black default transparency
Click the transparent checkbox under Ink Effects in the properties window for that object.
Re: changing black default transparency
Or in the Import dialog box, either select a different transparent color in the preview window, or double-click the "transparent color" box and select a different transparent color in the color selector.
Re: changing black default transparency
You can also click on a color in the palette during pressing "Shift" to change the transparent color of your imported sprite. ;)
Re: changing black default transparency
Thanks for the help, but I don't think I was clear enough. Here is a picture of what is happening, regardless of what I choose as the transparency:

See the grey transparent color selected? That was the former background color. If you look at the character's hair, you'll also see grey streaks, which were black originally in the png pics. When I look at the sprites in the scene, that grey partof the hair acts transparent. So it's as if it's making both black and grey the transparent colors for these imported pictures.
I'm sure it has something to do with the fac that it's a png, and png supports transparency... I don't seem to have a problem when I convert the sprite into a bmp. But doing that for every psprite will take a long time, and bmp images are much larger.
Re: changing black default transparency
Whoa... that sure is a funky spot for the properties window o_o
Re: changing black default transparency
yes that was a mistake... anyway, might anyone have a solution? Or perhaps there is a program out there which can convert a large number of transparent png files to non-transparent png files? What I mean is, when I load one of these png pictures into paint, and save it again as a png, then load that png into MMF, the problem goes away- there's no transparency in the hair. So some programs, I guess, support an export of tranparent png pics, others don't.
Any ideas?
Re: changing black default transparency
Could you send me this transparent PNG file? (my e-mail address is in my profile) I'll take a look.
Re: changing black default transparency
Thanks very much for offering, but after switching to TGF instead of MMF, it seems to work now.
Re: changing black default transparency
TGF doesn't support alpha channels.
Re: changing black default transparency
It would be good if you still sent the image so that it could be fixed in MMF.
Re: changing black default transparency
Thanks again for offering, but I am just fine with using TGF. Still, if I sent you one image, that would mean I'd have to send hundreds (literally) of others.
Re: changing black default transparency
Why? Couldn't you just send me the one that appears in your screen shot above?
Re: changing black default transparency
I meant to fix the problem with MMF, not the image.
We only need one.
Re: changing black default transparency
oh I see what you mean. Sure I'll send it in a little bit.
Thanks!
