More Vitalize 4 Q's
I was just wondering what we are looking at in terms of extensions with Vitalize 4. Will every extension in MMF2 also be avalible for V4? Or will there be those couple extensions that aren't supported?
This is the senario I will be having in the future:
I'm in the midst of revamping my website, and going to be converting it to a nice arcade type thing using vitalize 4 (as soon as it's released) to play the games. For one of the games, I want to be able play mp3's. Now I know you can't straight play mp3's off the website or stream them in the app, so I'll be trying to do this: Upon bootup of the game, prompt the user that there are mp3s that need to be downloaded(if not allready downloaded) giving them the option to download or not. If they download them, then they'll goto a dir that the games knows, and the mp3s will be played in the game straight off the PC just like how you would in an exe situation.
I know moosock will be supported, since it was in the last vitalize. I just to be sure that this mp3 system will be feastible, extension wise.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
Only extensions that do not read or edit user's files or do system stuff like shutting down are allowed to be used in Vitalize. Also, Clickteam need to approve each extension that its developer want to vitalize.

"Only extensions that do not read or edit user's files or do system stuff like shutting down are allowed to be used in Vitalize" - yuck to that.
Would there be any way to play mp3's in a Vitalize app?

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
Your plan sounds like it would unavoidably involve writing to the user's hard drive - and I think that Vitalize disallows that.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
nooo! i dont want to have to use midi files... :(
There must be some way to integrate mp3s into the Vitalize mix...

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
If the mp3 is on the server you could play them, if there is sound filter for it or extension which allows that.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
I'm pretty sure that Vitalize Plugin Object can download MP3 file into the Vitalize temporary folder and play it from there.

If that is the case then thats great. I haven't looked at that object in a long while, I'll need to play around with it.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
I recall vitalize 3 games that streamed mp3 from the net.

I dont remember any, got any links?
Thats nice if they can stream them, but if Liji is right, then I would rather just download them to the vitalize temp dir and direct play them off the PC; would save me some bandwidth.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
I think I saw it at the v-cade. I recommend just making another post in the forum there.

What about INI? Will that be allowed?
-
Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
INI was allowed in the previous version but only allowed access to one folder so that it couldn't be used to read system settings.

Re: More Vitalize 4 Q's
That's not even right. It was only allowed to one single file (vitalize.ini or so somewhere in the windows folder). The name of your vitailize file was translated into a group in that ini file. So you get something like this:
