Creating Sprites
Hi Clickers,
I'm kinda frustrated right now. I'm working on a new game and I would like to create my own sprites. The character is already done but the "landscape" is my problem.
I made some nice photographies of mushrooms and leaves and so on and I have changed several things on them but what ever I do they still look too realistic. I want them retro-looking like in the games "Hocus Pocus" and/or "lollypop" for DOS.
Do you guys know of any way to create good "retrosprites"?

Re: Creating Sprites
Either resave it in a very small number of colours, or trace over the image yourself.
Most of the retro games sprites were drawn by hand, and dos games didn't have more than 256 colours. Some really old games were in FOUR colours.
IIRC the Nintendo DS's sprite mode is 16 colours per sprite, from a 65536 colour palette.

I've tried that. But I'm not satisfied with the result. Still looks to realistic.
Maybe I should really go ahead and draw everything by hand.

Re: Creating Sprites
why not look at some sprites from the pokemon games and see how they work and then apply them into your game.
