[B248] Java Applets and Macs
Well I figured I'd try out the new Java features, I only have MMF2 Standard however. So I built my application as a java applet and ran it through my web browser and it worked great! Except... Everything that should have been transparent was black.
I don't know if it's even meant to be supported under OS X yet but just thought I'd let you all know.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
I think Java will be fully supported on Mac's only when Java 6 will be available on these machines, next year.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
It is released? Where can I find the B248 patch?
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
Check in the news section. Christmas Day 9.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
Like Yves said, Java on the Mac is only up to version 5 now, which is capable of running Java 6 applications but with some features missing (transparency being one of them, apparently).
A beta of Java 6 for the Mac is apparently available, but I don't know where to get it.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
Yes, it is available, I found it yesterday:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/javaformacosx104release6.html
But it runs only under Tiger and it doesn't run under Leopard...
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
Darn, well I can't use it then. Everything else seemed to work ok, so it won't be much (if any) work to get it running well on macs once Java 6 is out.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
I think the above mac link is still v5.0. It's just an update. It's the same version built-in to leopard right now.

Sorry for the mistake. Thanks, MelliGeorgiou.
Re: [B248] Java Applets and Macs
The beta of Java 6 was released yesterday on the Apple Developers Connection, so this should help a little...

Thanks for the link, Pkeod - that looks like it!

1) Not a final release - inexcusable, considering java 6 has been out for over a year for all the other platforms. A big problem because most people don't get dev previews, so you can't deploy java 6 apps to mac people
2) No PPC support - lots of people still use PPC's, including me
3) No Core Duo support - WTF apple? Why not?
4) No 10.4 support - not such a big deal, but still annoying (see 1)
...it's great, but we need to wait a bit...
