Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
This is sweet. I'm lovin' it, works absolutely great for me so far. however, i still don't think MMF can handle my project, but thats for another thread ;)
One step closer to keeping my project in MMF would be if we could zoom layers. That would be really useful as zooming involves loads of maths and variables to do it manually.

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
My turn! I've been waiting for HWA for a current project of mine Turning The Tide which I wanted to have lots of whizzy effects. I ran with and without HWA switched on and made a couple of vids:-
Without HWA
With HWA
First thing I noticed was that with HWA the frame rate only goes up to 38 (i've capped both at 50). I found that this was because I was running CamStudio. Turning this off the frame rate gets up to 50 and drops to a low of 43.
Another thing I noticed was that every now and then when running the same test scenario HWA wouldn't work and it would slow right down as before.
System specs
3.4 ghz pentium
2 gb ram
Nvidia 7900 GS with 256mb
Thanks CT :)
EDIT: Top numbers in vertical order are: number of objects, fps counter (resets to 0 every second) and the actual FPS.

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
Steven I'm quite sure that there is something else in your project that slows it down quite a bit. Your graphics seem very simple (few of them) so it shouldn't really slow down at all. If you can run 3D games at decent frame rates, so should your game.

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
wow, I enabled vsync and gave a boost in the FPS!
-
Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
It's the fire and smoke effects that slow it down.
-
Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
Steve, what's your FPS setup? What's your Monitor refresh? have you vsync enabled?
-
Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
I've got it setup so that 'always' one counter is having 1 added to and every one second that value is retrieved and set to the value of 3rd counter (in video) and the 2nd counter is set to zero.
Refresh rate is 60hz
Tried switching Vsync on and off but had no visible effect.
The fire and smoke effects all use alpha-transparencies would this slow it down a lot? As I said above though, after turning CamStudio off the frame rate drops to 43 from 50.

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
No, I mean, at the application properties, your frame rate is set to 50... 80...?
If your monitor allows, try setting the refresh rate to at least 85hz, set the Framrate to something between 80 and 90, and try with vsync on and off. It made a huge difference for me.

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
Did all that, but again made no real difference. My monitor only goes to a max of 75hz and anything above 60 makes everything look very blurry. Maybe it's my coding *shrugs*

Re: MMF2 HWA Beta
Okay this is a weird one:
Ever since installing the HWA beta, I've been getting some bizarre graphical glitches while running an application in my old version of MMF2 (246)
When changing frames, the next frame will have random objects placed in the spot of others. Like a quick backdrop I use for ground will be replaced with a random active object's first frame, and other random graphics are swapped around.
I uninstalled the HWA beta, but I dont know if that has fixed it.
(Edit: This actually may be related to Onu... I'll do more testing.)
